Virgil hunter or Pedro Diaz to train khan?
Virgil hunter or Pedro Diaz to train khan?
That's what the word is. Hunter trains Andre Ward and Diaz trains Miguel Cotto.
Both seem a very odd fit to me. Pedro trains Cotto and Odlanier Solis and speaks only Spanish - and Wards style is nothing like Khans, so would be strange move.
It all seems like they're targeting the teams of the most successful boxers they can, rather than evaluate styles gelling.

Hunter was quite critical of Khan's physique and conditioning for the Garcia fight. I think Ward would be a great stablemate for Khan, very disciplined and respectful and a more suitable style for Khan IMO. Roach has come accross as a bit of a pushover lately, Khan needs an authoritative guide who will utilise Khan's willingness to stand and fight, but add that measure of safety first.
Re: Virgil hunter or Pedro Diaz to train khan?
Yep - Khan will be playing second fiddle (his reason for leaving Roach) to Ward. Hunter is his godfather.
Ward is a family man, big into the lord (Son Of God) , happily married and a dedicated father of three...
..Khan is a twitter fiend, with an army of uncles and hanger-ons. I'm not sure it will gel and Hunter has been working with Ward since 2004. He has took him on since he was a little boy.
They will want immeadiate results from Hunter, which no trainer can deliver. I personally feel that Dan Birmingham would have been a good move (Winky, Dawson etc) for what they will likely be offering money wise. Naz Richardson dont work for pennies anymore.

Hunter won't let his legion of pudenda in the gym... so Khan will sack him (alla Ariza)G0mez wrote:Yep - Khan will be playing second fiddle (his reason for leaving Roach) to Ward. Hunter is his godfather.

Hunter is just the man of the moment. Trainers blow hot and cold with popularity as much as fighters. At the end of the day the fighter needs to get a grip of themselves.
I'm a fan of Khan, but it's his fault he's kept getting chinned. He's got the attributes to be a boxer, but tries to be a fighter and it doesn't work. He's far to hyper in the ring. Maybe Virgil Hunter can settle him down and being that he only really trains Andre Ward maybe it will be better for Khan.
However, how much can you really learn in an 8 week camp? You need to be working with your trainer all the time and Khan isn't gonna be moving to Oakland full time to make that happen.

Hunter is a scientist, he'll get Khan into the condition he needs to be in. A step up in weight is a must, traps and neck muscles worked on to the max, broadness, core strength and speed retained. Nothing fancy, just pure hardness! Get rid of the hangers on, shave his head, grow a big f*ck off beard and come out ready to to rock. It's all there with Khan, just needs to get his head out his arse and start building his legacy! I'm starting to think this Olympic medal business is turning our boys into glamour girls, Daily Sport standard!ArtOfWar wrote:Hunter is just the man of the moment. But at least he won't have to travel to the Philippines. Ward doesn't like to travel more than 10 mies from his house.G0mez wrote:Yep - Khan will be playing second fiddle (his reason for leaving Roach) to Ward. Hunter is his godfather.

Ariza ditched Khan in while away in the Philippines. He didn't even have the decency to tell Khan he was leaving, he only told Manny.
Ariza is one of the biggest a-holes in boxing. He is also a bigger twitter whore than anyone, using it to spread all his lies.

It doesn't make sense, if he is willing to share a trainer there are plenty to choose from, like someone else said they've just looked at Ward and thought that's where we want to get to. Lets go for him. Not because he can dedicate his full time working on Khan's defense which is his Achilles heelG0mez wrote:Yep - Khan will be playing second fiddle (his reason for leaving Roach) to Ward.
