Big Warren show in December

Post by earsjohn »

On last weeks BBC London Steve Bunce Boxing Show, allegedly said that he was looking to put on a big show in London later this year. Bunce suggested at the O2, which wasn't entirely dismissed. So who would headline?

Burns, Mitchell and Cleverly are busy;
Chisora is possibly unlicenced
The Degale contract situation doesn't appear to be resolved
The likes of BJ Saunders, Frankie Gavin, John Murray and Liam Walsh are not big enough sellers to lead a big show like this

That really only leaves George Groves - could he be in line for a world title shot?

Will be interesting, although I will likely be reserved about the
Boxers that will be discussed prior, to actually step in to the ring
On the night because we keep hearing how they're all tied up already
Because of fights before and after the December date being touted
Unless they withdraw some of the dates and actually consolidate them.
Maybe to save production costs they will just roll all the fights into a giant event.
So i guess we shall wait and see.

Last year there was going to be a big show nothing happened!

I think you can count Degale out!

I'm trying to remember the source but I definitely remember reading the winner of Burns Vs. Mitchell will be the headlining the December show. So it could be Burns Vs. Scott Harrison, Burns Vs. John Murray, Mitchell Vs. John Murray II if it's a domestic showdown.

If Ricky Hatton join allegedly maybe Warren, Maloney and Hatton would put on a join supercard.

Hatton is not going there. primetime favourites I read.

Burns v Harrison be best in Scotland not in London.

Remember last year he had a big show Degale, Groves at Excel it never happened!

With the likes of Frank Buglioni, Billy Morgan, Joey Taylor and Mitchell Smith all pretty good ticket sellers Groves and Mitchell if he wins in big title fights and the return of Delboy i think they would fill most arenas in london with that card

Thats true i was there, but if Mitchell is on the card defending a world title and Groves in a good fight they could get 10,000 but they would need something special to fill the o2

Mitchell and Burns are fighting each other this weekend; a December card will be no later than 15th of the month, so you're looking at a 12 week turnaround, tops. Top UK fighters haven't fought that frequently in years and particularly so under the current televisual arrangements. Add in that the fight on saturday could be a 12 round battle and i'd give it a less than 10% chance that either will be out again before March next year. Not ideal, but realistic.

Groves is nowhere near ready for a world title shot IMO. Be great to have a really big show to round off the year.

Groves
Billy Joe Saunders
Chisora
Buglioni
Mitchell Smith
Bradley Saunders
Maybe even Burns/Mitchell winner in a keeping busy contest.

I think these names are not an unreasonable ask on one big card.
