Timekeeper in the McPhilbin/Big Mac fight? Is he banned, sacked, fined?

He got suspended (6 months I think) and told he would have to retrain before working again

Cheers

Shocking how something like that can happen in British boxing.

What was his excuse?

Bronxbull,

Yeah, no excuse really. The only (not acceptable) rationale for his behaviour was that he thought the ref waved it off so he rang the bell to signal the end of the contest (which doesn't happen nowadays anyway). Or he got too emotionallly involved in the fight and wanted it stopped.

Its completely unacceptable. I do think the punishment was fitting though. I don't know who the timekeeper was, but I cannot remember this being a regular occurance - so a significant suspension (and 6 months is quite a bit for a timekeeper) and retraining (and evaluation) is properly fitting.

The fact that he rang the bell twice (once with 42 seconds left, and once with 35) is very strange. Especially seeing as it was rang just as Enzo got up. No way he would have seen the round out.

One of the worst things i've seen recently. Not only that, but he failed a drugs test and they still didn't give the belt back to McPhilbin, or declare it a No Contest.

You gotta feel sorry for McPhilbin. Title should be his.

Very little chance of him beating Dickinson, either, IMO. If he does, I hope he smashes Bulwell again! :OhYes:

His excuse was his Stopwatch "malfunctioned". He is suspended till the new year and is undergoing re training programme during his suspension.

These things happen. Don't know the chap but wouldn't want to hang him out to dry over it.

As Dan says, given this and Enzo's drug test fail, the BBBoC should have given McPhilbin his title back anyway.

Pretty much agree with all. If it had been a football ref who blew the whistle a couple of minutes before the stoppage time board went up and a certain team (probably Man U) were winning 1-0, but were getting run ragged, wonder what would have happened?

I might have a cheeky couple of quid on McPhilbin. He's done 12 in his last two, JLD hasn't yet.
