Seems a nice guy with an interest in the sport and tonight he's put a bit of history in but what does he bring to the table for the fees/costs he will likely charge? He is a multi millionaire so would want top class travel, accommodation and no doubt a fee to make his effort worthwhile.

Could this not be better spent on the undercard?

Point understood but in my view having buffer announce the fight adds a little bit of prestige , gives it the big fight feel .

Some might say he's cheapening the brand. It becomes less sought after when its commonplace at fights.

Dark d, I'm with you there but would you do all that travelling when you knew you would get the same return on your savings as you would for travelling?

Still think even 20k plus 1st class flights etc is too much when the main support was a Celtic title fight

My missus is not a boxing fan and has to put up with it, but she likes a story behind a fight to keep her interested and when Buffer is doing his thing, she has learned it's a big fight and takes interest!

IMO he's worth his weight in gold. Just keep thinking, wtf is Jimmy Lennon Jr doing? Nowhere near Buffer's league! I love Buffer, the undercard was quality, really good journeymen.

I read a fantastic interview by Thomas Hauser on Buffer years ago. I can't be bothered to dig it out now, but he is indeed tremendously rich.

He got his start by sending a picture of himself around all the casinos with a letter saying that they might be better served ditching the crusty old MCs and going with someone who looked a bit more like James Bond. Seriously.

He actually owns the rights to the phrase "let's get ready to rumble." You're not allowed to say that at an event without paying him royalties and getting his permission before hand, for instance. I'm not sure what his fees are, but in addition to that, he will no doubt get first class plane travel (or a private jet) and the very best of accommodation.

Anyway, I do think he seems like a decent guy, or certainly a smooth operator in terms of his PR. I liked the way he stayed in the ring and congratulated Burns after the fight.

Seems a class act all round, really. Just a real professional, if nothing else.

You never know with those mega rich folk and he's used to the Vegas treatment.

I'm not knocking buffer, he can add a touch of sophistication to the night but on a card like tonight, the money could have been put to better use. At the very minimum I'd go with 35k all in for him, possibly a lot more. McKenzie v enzo would have been better value in my opinion

I love hearing Jimmy Lennon Jr almost as much as Buffer. Whilst Buffers voice is better, Lennon's ability to pronounce Spanish-based names is amazing.

I know its very expensive to charter a plane for him but all I meant was that he will be accustomed to a way of life due to his own fortune and wouldn't drop his standard for a job.

If a self employed writer travelled up and down the country using first class train tickets for stories and was then asked by a promoter to travel to a fight he would want 1st class travel again

What I'm far more surprised about, to be frank, is that BN had the budget to invest in Buffer for this event given the question marks that have been raised over its financial resources. I guess it's plausible he's on a multi-fight deal that was inked some time ago, but as others have already stated, he certainly won't come cheap.

But the costs involved in running the whole set-up are significant and the cashflow issues have been pretty well documented by now. Chisora-Haye was a spectacular 'get-out-of-jail' card (and more by virtue of selling the overseas rights I would imagine), but there aren't many of those in the locker.

I was pissed off as with all the drunken fuckers in the crowd last night, as far as im concerned when Buffer does his shit you listen. Thats what builds the atmosphere and tension but i couldnt hear him due to everyone signing "Kevin Mitchell Your a wanker, your a wanker" when he was doing his thing but if you cant beat them you join them so i just sung along. lol

I couldnt even here the entrance tunes or Buffer over the crowd noise. Warren should invest in a better sound system!

That's an interesting article but it suggests that he has shared the a few cents on the dollar on the he made from licensing with his brother. Which along with his ring announcing gigs i'm sure makes him very comfortable but i doubt he's worth anything near a third of a billion.
