Alejandro Gonzalez v. Jhonny Gonzalez.

Post by Rover »

Two Mexicans who both turned pro quite young. Big punchers with less-than-stellar chins. Alejandro beat better comp (Espinosa, Soto, Kelley). He also could recoup better than Jhonny; got up from a huge Kelley left. Alejandro by KO in a war for me.

A Cobrita Gonzalez shout on here, you won't hear him talked about much anymore. I think Jhonny's a bigger banger, I'd favor Jhonny, but I like the fight definitely.

I think the issue here is more chin than punch. Think Cobrita's got a better one.
I'd never heard of Cobrita before the Kelley fight; forgotten classic that is.
He (Cobrita) faded so fast; reappeared on HBO years later and lost easily to Johnston.

COBRITA!

COBRITA!!!

Ahem. Jhonny will always have a soft spot with me -- despite, or maybe because of recently being smashed to pieces by a rampaging southpaw caveman with an inadvisable hairdo-- but Alejandro engendered the original "Datsue Mexican left-hooker seal of approval" spurt of manlove.

Or maybe that was Goyo Vargas. Yeah, it was Goyo Vargas. Fvck. But Gonzalez (A) raised up my hopes then proceeded to break my heart just as much as Vargas (G) & Gonzalez (J). I mean, one moment you're flattening (or being flattened by) either Luis or Louie Espinosa (or Espinoza? Not the Texan one, the Filipino one with the porn mustache. Rover cleared this up for me the other day, & I've forgotten & now can't be bothered to go & look it up) & outpointing the other Louie (or Louis?) Espinoza (or Espinosa? Fvck it. The Texan one...) & beating Kevin Kelley so badly Phil Borgia got all street-compassionate in the corner, the next you're losing to Manuel fornicating Medina.

Though he did once beat Steve Forbes & (I think) once beat up Orlando Salido. But he just faded away, really. Not being quite quick enough to do the do versus Lil' but Bad just saved him being embarrassed at some point by Floyd Mayweather, I feel. Nowhere near as strong as Castillo, nor as resilient & technically precise.

Was a bad motherfucker for at least one night though, & I think he'd survive some rocky moments to splatter Jhonny G. somewhere around halfway.

Right, sorry. Thanks again. I apologise if my love of the running gag is beginning to spill over into an annoyance.

No worries. BTW, since you like JMM so much, I created an interesting match-up for him in another thread.
