Orzubek Nazarov vs Gatti or Ward around 2000.

Post by BoxBuzz »

Do you remember the fella fron Krzygstan? or Kazakstan? Not sure of the correct spelling or are those two different nations?

Anyway....Orzubek had a perfect record going into his final fight...and retired with his first loss at age 32. Strange.....

Any thoughts on the chances of either Gatti or Ward against this rather capable champion, in and around that time?

He put the screws to Gamache about the same way Gatti did. Not sure if Ward had any common opponents with Nazarov.

Nazarov was a good guy. I taught English in Tokyo and worked out at Kyoei Gym were he trained. From I heard he suffered a detached retina and had to retire. I saw him fight Joey Gamache in Maine. He destroyed Gamache and would have held his own with Gatti or Ward.

I remember him, tall rangy puncher, good jab. He was shown on Eurosport in the Uk quite a lot. I think he Out boxes ward and has a battle, perhaps losing, with Gatti.

Personally...he beats.the pair of them. Very under rated.fighter, infact many of the guys who went.to Japan around that time are very over looked (Arbachakov being the other obvious one)

Agreed on everything except perhaps Ward. Nazarov never proved anything at jr. welter. He would beat Gatti at LW, though; I'm confident of that.
