Did anybody see this week's Ringside training feature with Jamie Moore?
There's a saying that you perform how you practice and I watch all of that pattycake padwork and just think, how the hell is that teaching you how to box? You could say it's about hand-eye co-ordination but I can bash one of those pop-up vermin things with a hammer on one of those fairground games for hand-eye co-ordination and it ain't going to make me a boxer.
Yes I know it's only one part of a training programme but as far as I'm concerned every training activity should have a specific purpose that equates to how you will box. Floyd Mayweather may do that sort of stuff on the pads but I wonder how much is for show, I doubt it was used to teach him how to box and if I'm wrong then I would think he's the exception and not the rule.
I don't wish to be harsh on the young guy they featured but after strutting around like a legend talking about winning 7 world titles in different weights he proceeded to pitty-pat the heavy bag with arm punches and no hip rotation whatsoever. And then tweets flash up on the screen (don't get me started on that, I couldn't give a flying fuk what Joe Blow thinks when I'm listening to the panel's opinions....) saying how great he's going to be!!!
I'm with the distinctly unimpressed Glenn McCrory on this one I just don't get it.
