BOOTH PLEASE DONT ROB ME

BOOTH: ‘PLEASE DON’T ROB ME!’
Nottingham’s Jason Booth is considering wearing a t-shirt emblazoned with a plea to the judges to give him a fair ‘crack of the whip’ when he enters the ring to face County Durham’s Martin Ward for the English bantamweight title at the Hartlepool Borough Hall on September 30.
Last time out, at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light on July 15, Booth lost to Ireland’s Willie Casey for the WBA European super-bantamweight title in a fight many had him winning. Now, with his career hanging in the balance, Jason is prepared to do all he can to make sure lightning doesn’t strike twice against Ward.
“I thought I won [against Casey] but didn’t get the decision. I don’t understand it and thought I got robbed,” stated Booth, the former British super-bantamweight champion. “To be honest I’m wary about fighting in the North East again and if it goes to points I might not get it, but I’m going to have do my best for it not to be an issue. I’ll have to wear a t-shirt saying ‘please don’t rob me’!”
Booth, 34, is currently on a four-fight losing streak and knows he cannot afford another reverse to the talented Ward. Now, having competed since 2009 at super-bantam, the former world title challenger is relishing the chance to move down in weight where he believes he can still make an impact.
“I’m basically a bantamweight anyway, so this is where I belong,” said Booth of his English title shot. “If I can get past Martin Ward then I definitely think I’ll be British champion again. I feel really serious about this fight; it’s make or break for me.”
“I actually though Jason won against Willie Casey,” stated promoter Phil Jeffries, “but sometimes in boxing the judges see it differently. Jason’s a lovely lad though and he is definitely assured of a warm welcome in the North East again.
“This is going to be a tremendous fight because both Booth and Ward are excellent boxers. I think their styles will really gel and I know that fight fans in the North East are in for a real treat. Don’t forget too that we’ve also got Gary Fox taking on Neil Hepper in a local derby for the Northern Area title and that will be a real battle.”
Martin Ward vs. Jason Booth for the English bantamweight title will be at the Hartlepool Borough Hall on September 30. The undercard will include Hartlepool duo Peter Cope and Callum Winton; Fishburn’s Gary Fox; Darlington’s Neil Hepper; Horden’s Greg O’Neill; Middlesbrough’s Mohammed Waqas, and Gateshead’s Rob Ismay

It is a tough pick when you look at it as you have Ward the coming fighter fighting a guy against Booth who is looking for one last crack at a Lonsdale belt and he still has got experience and know how, but perhaps age and wear and tear is starting to catch up and Ward could nick it.
