Jackson Bounces back WUD6 over Tavui

Post by N2 Shape »

New Zealand Super-Middleweight Champion Gunnar 'The Stunna' Jackson bounced back from his upset defeat 2 months ago to win comfortably beat Faimasasa Tavui via scores of 60-54 on all 3 judges cards over 6x3min last night in Tauranga, NZ.

Tavui showed up in shape weighing his lightest in years, but didnt have the tools to match Jackson relentless style being completely outworked start to finish. On two occasions Jackson had Tavui hurt towards the end of a round nly for the bell to save Tavui.

It was a good confidecne booster for Jackson ahead of his scheduled NZPBA Title defence against the strong punching Adrian Tahia October 27th which will be shown LIVE via the Internet more details to follow :TU:

Well done Craig, I must say it was a shock when the Stunna got rolled in his last start, but 4 rounder's are just not his go, he is not even warm after four.

Anyway, he appears back on track now, and there are some good fights out there for him.

Cheers

Its good to hear Gunnar had a win. I was also suprised yo hear he lost.
His 2 fights here in Perth against Dave Letizia were absolute crackers. Hopefully he can defend his NZ title and move onto bigger things. He is a good fighter.

Thanks Kylamy and Sweet P it was definately a wake up call in losing to Simoukov, Gunnar wasnt mentally where he needed to be for the fight and he admitts that but cant take anyhting away from Simoukov who as an experienced kick boxer brought the fight to Gunnar and snuck home with the SD!

the Stunna is a 10/12 round fighter, so no need to take nothing 4 rounders but we live and we learn! And he has now bounced back well after dominating the durable and game Tavui over 6. Which should stand him in good stead as he approaches the first defence of his NZ title against the hard hitting Taihia!!

Ben,

Yes I agree, Gunnar, is a very good fighter who has, largely gone under the radar, funny thing is, he appears a little hot and cold as I am sure Craig will agree, but one thing i am sure of, he will do better over longer distances, and we have not yet seen the best of him, but I think he does need to get a little more active.

On another note, cannot wait to see the Berridge v Casey stoush next Friday, that will be a beauty, on face value you would say Berridge's power may overwhelm Joel, but 2Gunz just keeps surprising everyone, it is a good fight and well done to Charlie and Sam for making it happen

I think the issue with the Simoukov bout was that Gunnar had come off Big efforts in winning the NZ Title and PABA titles in quick succession and to step down to a 4 rounder agianst a guy who has nothing to loose and everything to gain was a management mistake one I take responsibility for. Having said that an on form Gunnar it would most probably have been a different outcome.

In regards ot his activity I assume you mean over the longer distances Brad? As Gunnar would be one of if not the most active New Zealand based professional. I agree however his best work is yet to come over 10/12 rounds distances. Whilst not an out in out puncher he showed over a longer distance he can break you down (Letieza bout)

Yes I'am also looking forward to the Casey Vs Berridge stoush. With Casey's never say die attitude and Berridges power and will to win its going to be a beauty. I still think a points win to Berridge albeit a close one.

There are some great match ups for Gunnar at Sipermiddle and Lt heavy in Aus. At supermiddle he would beat a lot of our better fighters.
Casey vs Berridge is a real 50/50. Berridge has more power but Casey the experience. Great fight and i cant pick a winner.

Agreed Sweet P, Super-Middle is his weight and Im also interested to see how he'd go at Middle as he could make that weight without killing himself!

I think Berridge Vs Casey is also a toss up,
