Vacancy for IBO world title

The IBO have stripped their Light Middleweight world champion for not defending the title and they have wrote to the BBB of C, offering it to 4 british fighters Ryan Rhodes, Brian Rose, Prince Arron and Sam Webb, as qualified boxers, now the BBB of C have circulated the request to it's members on the basis of a promoter putting it on a show, Ryan Rhodes has just retired and really wanted a world title, will he come out of retirement for one last chance to live his dream ? Prince Arron has moved up to middle, will he be tempted to move back down in weight, Brian Rose and Sam Webb are due to face each other for the British title around December, will one of them drop out to go for this IBO world title or will they face each other for the the IBO title ? One thing for sure is that the IBO seem desperate to fill the vacancy pronto.

Are the IBO just canvassing the 4 Brits, or have they put the feelers out on the likes of Mayweather and Canelo?

I'm hoping the IBO become an equal to the other titles, they don't mind unifications and their ranking system is the best. Credible title for the 4 Brits to fight for IMO.

I see them as the next World title in line behind the 4 'big ones' but they do tend to look to get unified with one of the big 4 I think. If they have a champ who only holds the IBO then 9 times out of 10 they aren't all that good.

The IBO might have creditable rankings (to an extent) but they don't have creditable champions. Just look at the British guys getting offered a dig at their title, Sam Webb's a good boxer who I enjoy watching and is a good British level fighter, but a world champion? I think not.

The last thing we need is another world title organisation breaking through, we need to start getting rid of some of the F*****s first!Does anybody really think Povetkin, Jones, Cloud, Shumenov, Cleverly, Abraham, N'Dam N'Jikam, Trout, Berto, Malignaggi, etc (I could go on!) are proper world champions? Good fighters - yes. Best in their division - no.

Till the WBC, WBO, IBF, WBA and all the other filth are either binned or merged boxing will never be what it can be.

Apparently they have a hundred fighters to choose from in their rankings, unlike some of the major governing bodies their fighters don't have to be in the top 10 or 15 to fight for their world title, otherwise our 4 british fighters would not have been invited, because all 4 can't be in the top 15, could be a good title for promoters under the big 2 to go for, the sanctioning fee would not be as high as the major bodies like the WBC, WBA for instance.

The IBO can put people forward for vacant belts at their discretion, but the criteria of ‘the challenger must have a positive record in his last six fights’ would ordinarily rule out Webb. If you’re top 35 then it is easier to get a shot, anyone outside this, and up to the top 50, can be given a shot as long as the committee sits down and rubberstamps it. Around a decade ago, the IBO repeatedly told people they were fair, not arbitrary etc. and they must have had a really good publicist as this stuck. The reality is that the rankings seem independent, but they’re similar to Italian traffic lights as they just use them as a rough guideline. I obtained a secret copy of the IBO’s world title criteria. It is a below:

1: Can we get a sanctioning fee from this fight? If the answer is yes, then we will use our special discretionary powers to make it.

Ted Bami springs to mind. You could be anywhere in the top 100 and if it suits the IBO then you’ll get either a title fight or an eliminator for a vacant title, which doesn’t really make sense.

Not a big fan of people getting a world title shot, when not in the top 15, but like anyone else if one of my fighters was offered one I would snap their hand off and take it, but would you be a real world champion ? The IBO did indicate in their letter to the BBB of C that they was picking from a 100 fighters around the world.
