I think that the problem is alot of posters envy\dislike him due to success

Brits love an underdog/loser ala tim henman
I don't think for a second that anyone here dislikes Khan because of his race. Not a single poster.

The Brits loving a loser is a complete myth. Henman was loved? Only by british tennis fans who would support anyone flying their flag seeing as they are so success starved! Henman was ridiculed by the rest of the nation!

Look at the modern day sporting hero's...Wiggins, Hoy, Ennis, Farah are just four from this Summer. No plucky losers or underdogs there.

However I say it again.
The worst racism I have ever witnessed was at a Khan fight and it wasn't the "40 something meat head shaven blah blah" as you so eloquently put it that were dishing it out.
It was Khan's fans - aimed vociferously at the perfectly calm white people around them - including ladies and youngsters.
oooh touched a nerve did I? Was i too eloquent in describing you yourself with those adjectives.

Instead of stirring the pot without any evidence why dont you tell us a little more about this "worst case of racism in 35 years of boxing you saw with Khan fans being racist"?...event, place???.....or did it only take place in the figment of your imagination? Lets see if anyone else can corroborate it.
Gee it must have been something really bad to surpass Hagler-Minter in your mind!

Ive been to countless boxing and MMA events. The boxing ones were mostly amateur and i have yet to witness any racism in the amateur code crowds or MMA crowds. I have heard black boxers being abused, and women abused during pro shows. But that is a small minority of drunken idiots who hate on anyone imo.

On balance, I can live with Amir and his un-PR style. I can understand why he's often disliked though, and if there is a colour-based element to it - its extremely minor. Behaving like Khan is victimised by any decent number because of his colour actually denigrates the effect of cases of true racist bias, cases that genuinely merit concern. I think my point is that equality is also the right to dislike anyone equally - and Amir shouldn't be judged (overly negatively nor overly postively) because of his colour.

I'm from Bolton, where Amir is from...during the Olympics he was a GOD, when he turned pro everybody loved him, he fought several times at the Reebok Stadium and the fans couldn't get enough, no matter what race or religion they were.

However as his ego has inflated so much outside of the ring, his whole 3rd person talk has just alienated himself from the fans.

Now forgive me if I'm wrong, but from the Olympics to now, he's always been of Pakistani descent. The fans' minds have been changed purely because of his attitude and his unjustified inflated ego.

For me the Ringside interview only alienated him further as sat next to Brook, a humble, well spoken, likeable fighter, he came across as arrogant and ignorant.

I find it laughable that people are so quick to just blame it on his race. He fights for Great Britain and that is all I care about, lets just stick to boxing talk guys.

Amir's an excellent, exciting talented boxer who's done very well in the sport but he pisses people off with his poorly thought out conduct outside the ring.

Ohoh I see race and religion has been inserted into the argument along the way. fornicating pathetic :shame:

The lad is a bit thick, and he says some extremely stupid things on a regular basis. I can see why people would get annoyed with him, but I wouldn't miss his fights.

I believe that the over-whelming majority of posters on this board wouldn't be influenced by his ethnic heritage.

That said, over the years I've watched a few of his fights on stream sites, and some of the racist bile that gets posted on the "chat" sections there is truly shocking (some from his fans, some from his detractors). You really wouldn't think it's the 21st century. If anyone doubts that racism is still a problem in today's society, take a look around in the comments sections on Youtube etc, it's fricking mind-blowing.

I thought Brook came across better on Ringside, and seemed the more genuinely confident of the two. I was also more inclined to believe his side of the story over their sparring sessions.

Khan on the other hand was right in a way to take the higher ground, He has been a world champion, his last 8 fights were world title fights, even though he lost the last two. He has faced much better opoosition than Brook and he's headlined big shows in Vegas on several occassions.

If they fought, the smart money would be on Khan. I reckon he'd win handily. Brook needs to show a lot more before he will convince me otherwise. Stepping up his level of opposition would be a good start.

They was kids and khan was much more advanced & naturally wants it to be recognised by brook for psychological edge & whilst he is entertaining it he is promoting a showdown wether he realise's or not.
Plus the fact khan has lost two on the spin, he can't sit on a high horse

I've stated my facts very clearly - facts, not rhetoric.
Why go on about slavery FFS ?
Is how Mugabi described a boxing fan any worse than how Khan has been described ( white 40 year old meat head shaven, white van driving benefit dodging BNP supporter) ?
Is an Asian person spitting in an 8 year old white lad's face at boxing any better or worse than the white racist bigots ?
No.
It is not on in my view to simply say everyone dislikes Khan because of the colour of his skin.
I don't care if they are white, black, pink, grey purple maroon whatever - if you deal poorly with joe public and do not conduct yourself respectfully then you get what you wish for.
For the record not everyone DOES dislike Khan.
seeing a bunch of Asian idiots abusing white people does not in anyway justify the abuse that Khan gets and yes racism works both ways in my book, in fact I was at the fight between Khan and Bredis Prescott, after the fight, some people where upset Khan had lost and some where happy, when I watched Khan in Bolton a large group of white hooligans sang " where are the Pakis at " to which some asians charged forward towards them, after Khan's Olympics silver, when Khan was still an amateur, Khan and his family went to see his younger brother fight in a small amateur show and where verbally abused and threatened, paki chants bellowed out, this was before Khan had even had chance to be disliked, in fact it was at his height of his fame as an amateur, so I don't buy it, that he is hated just because of his personality.

True, who cares, when they eventually fight it will make no difference to the outcome, both have improved massively since.

to put my pennys worth in ,

I enjoyed the way they debated a bit on ringside and it was obvious johnny nelson was enjoying it too ,

Lets let them build a future fight for boxing reasons and that their own personalities will be an addition to what sells the fight .

Race or religion wont have any bearing on the fight so its all pointless discussion ,

but for what its worth i do believe some people dont like Khan for racial reasons , but that will almost certainly be the minority .

I did think racism was virtually extinct having lived all my life in a multicultural city , but i moved away to the countryside for a short while of around 4 years and couldnt believe how rife racism was there , ive since returned to Nottingham around 18 months ago and i do notice the occasional racism amongst people i know , maybe the experience in the country opened my eyes to it a bit i dont know , but its certainly not as dead as i previously had thought .

I tend to lean towards a boxer with a big mouth etc rather than dislike him so while i would hardly call myself a Khan fan i can relate to him for entertainment purposes

To BIGMARK and the other patronising git that posted.

I'm not naive. I am from a multi cultural area myself, a town in Manchester. Every third or fourth person is of a different race/background/culture... it's not an issue...

As someone said earlier in the post. Khan was loved at the Olympics, by the UK... Not just minority groups. Opinions have changed purely because Khan rubs people up the wrong way.

Naz got abuse because he thrived on it, it was a character he created for himself... I didn't like Naz at the time.. not because of his skin colour. Because he was a cocky get, but funny with it.. and now I respect him.He was merely a pantomime villain. But Khan is just a fool.

I don't like Khan for the same reason everyone else has stated... now are you saying I am lying to cover up the fact I am racist?

I deal with diversity everyday in my job and am by no means naive.

Really I think your view of racism is very outdated, you need to get out of that crappy pub and out in the real world mate.

Well that's a first for me.
I'm now a 40 year old shaven headed meat head white van driving benefit cheating BNP member.
I give up.
I'll have a word with my friends in boxing of all ages colours and creeds and see if they agree.
Thanks for that Mugabi.

It seems to me that some people make their minds up about an Amir Khan studio performance before the show has even aired.

I would never argue that Khan hasn't said some daft things over the years, but there was nowt wrong with this latest appearance whatsoever.

Silly topic.

I've just watched it, was waiting for Amir to say or do something outrageous to justify some of the comments but I didn't see it. I also don't think Kell was as confident as some are saying, certainly not as confident as when he was in the barbers chair mocking Khan a couple of weeks earlier with his mates or as confidents as he appeared over the years hes been shouting Khans name out. Of course Khan would have seen both of those and under the circumstances I thought he conducted himself appropriately. Having said all that, Brook didn't look nervous, just not as forward as I'd expected given previous statements he's made.

I don't mind at all that there is needle between them, but its 50-50. Khans was respectful and positive about Brook apart from when in comparison with himself, and imo it was a good interview all round which I enjoyed.

If we are going to get into, 'Why are certain people racist towards Asians?' then I guess I could write a book living in an area that has over 50% Asians. There is an integration problem in this country which has been ignored, papered over, whatever you want to call it. This against a backdrop of living in the most PC times ever, so anyone who even tries to discuss these matters honestly and openly, immediately gets branded a racist. Which just creates more resentment.
