Great fight. I go for Hearns as he was a lot faster and more accurate but Nigel could take him out if he lands the right bomb at the right time. :box:

I reckon Tommy would keep him at a distance at first but Benn's athleticism and speed help him close the distance enough later in the fight (around 5th or 6th round) to land the big right hand that takes Hearns out of there.
I believe Tommy is a better boxer but he is a glass cannon meaning that he is susceptible to knockout losses. Benn on the other hand is more athletic and has the better the chin. Benn may have a few knockout losses but they were from multitudes ofabsolute power shots from incredible punchers who in turn had incredible chins preventing them from getting knocked out by Benn.

So I would take Benn in a mid 6h round KO after being outboxed early and given some trouble with Hearns range and powerful right hand.

At super middleweight I'd take Benn to win by a mid-rounds KO while behind on point and after tasting the canvas himself early in the fight.

being fair, Benn took an awful lot of clean shots from Watson before the jab got him.

While Tommy would be the favourite going in to this fight... I will surprise myself and pick a Benn KO victory. Nigel could be wild at times, but he could do damage.

Hearns class edges it each time!! People forget his pedigree & what a great boxer he was.him & the great srl were nip & tuck & hagler was just a beast!!

Benn would cause problems & in with a good shout in a very exciting fight in which I don't think any fan would have a pen in there hand

On the assumption than that we got the semi shot .50% version of hearns of 168 who drew with SRL and beat Olajide and went on to beat Virgil Hill at 175 v the prime SM Benn of 94-95.........than its a very interesting fight

Hearns even a shot version at 168 had learned how to deal with his loss of legs/chin, and the noticeable decrease in speed and reflexes by adapting a tighter more boxing orientated style....this hearns was still faster than the vast majority of 160-168 pounders in the world at the time, and of course he still had a murderous punch altho not the same one p4p he carried at 147.

Benn had that chin fragility but he also was a fast ferocious power puncher who could slip shots and box at 168....but now way he outboxes hearns. Theres every chance this fight goes the way of the first barkley one in that tommy is tearing benn apart with boxing has him battered and benn launches a ferocious last ditch rally and kayoes tommy.

But I tend to go against this theory...I think the fight would be more like barkley -hearns 2. Benn would pressurise tommy but tommy wouldnt get his nose and right hand broken in the 2nd round like in that fight, and here he would go on to outpoint and bust up benn over 12.
