Geale v Mundane 2
Geale v Mundane 2
Apparently Geale has applied to the IBF to postpone his mandatory defense so he can fight Mundine for the title in Jan.
It would be nice to see DG get that loss avenged but I don't really think he should be wasting his window of opportunity on Mundine. I realise it will make him a lot of money but I don't think it does too much for his career at this point.
Hopefully Geale can knock him over in convincing fashion if they do fight as I would not like to see a trilogy...

Re: Geale v Mundane 2
I guess it makes more money here in Aus fighting Mundine then a fight with Soliman. I kinda of expected for Geale's Team to call GGG's bluff and get him here in Australia for a fight which i doubt would happen allowing Geale to keep his WBA belt.
Re: Geale v Mundane 2
Makes sense $$ wise for Geale, if he puts Choch away convincingly he can look at some bigger fights mid 2013, then again if Choc makes a real fight of it and its close again expect a trilogy
Re: Geale v Mundane 2
Would be redemption if it comes off as Mundine will not last the distance.
Clauses will needed to be built into the contract:
- That Mundine get disqualified if the glove tapes come loose more than once. We don't want the spectacle of every time (and happened at least five times) he got under pressure in the last Geale fight, Mundine's tapes came loose, the bout stopped, the tapes repaired (ever so poorly) while Mundine rested up to regain his composure.
- Another clause should be that Mundine's goons be kept well away from the judges.

Re: Geale v Mundane 2
I have heard this as well, I can only hope it isn't true. I would rather see him fight Soliman, and I'm not even keen on that fight. Mundine does not deserve the shot.

What makes you think it will happen in January? Mundine last fought in mid July. Means either a five and a half month break or tune up fight that could turn it all to shit with a loss.AT MAGIC wrote:Posted earlier mundine is his best option and bet australia day saturday jan 26 is when they will fight , lookin foward to seeing australia 4most well know boxers fight over summer geale, mundine, green and cameron (7th state!) hope geale finnish's choc

im happy this is happening it will show what mundine's got left
Re: Geale v Mundane 2
I agree with this. Whilst there is no doubt financially Choc is the better fight I think it does nothing for Geale on a world stage. If for some stupid reason choc is competitive at middleweight it may actually deflate Geales bargaining powers with the big names on the world stage. I hope Sammy gets his well earned shot. If geale wants to fight in Oz, fight Sam. Mundine has done nothing lately to suggest he should get a shot.Stinger wrote:I have heard this as well, I can only hope it isn't true. Re: Geale v Mundane 2
I can understand Geale wanting to get his revenge against Mundine, but this has put a bitter taste in my mouth.

This was a Paul Kent story that came out a couple of days after Geale beat Sturm. I would not put much credence in it.

Re: Geale v Mundane 2
i dont mind it. Martinez is out of action, chavez is suspended, golovkin is set to fight ishe smith. So alot of the top players are unavailable. Plus this is a low risk-high reward fight for Geale.

Re: Geale v Mundane 2
Wonder when we are going to hear who Geale will be fighting? Hard to understand how Mundine could push the queue when he hasn't been fighting at middleweight and wouldn't be rated highly by IBF or WBA at middleweight.
Answering my own question - it's probably money that is (or might) be buying Mundine the 'opportunity'.

Re: Geale v Mundane 2
Could well be Soliman. He is the IBF mandatory and rated higher than Mundine at this time. Geale has until some time next year for his WBA mandatory (Golovkin). WBC champ Martinez will be unfit to fight for a while. WBO champ N'Jikam has a title defence coming up against Peter Quillin.

Mundne is no.12 with the ibf at middle. If this fight was made I am sure geale camp could buy an extension on there mandatory against SolimanTrainInsane wrote:Wonder when we are going to hear who Geale will be fighting? Where does Mundine rate with WBA? Nowhere I'm thinking? But I suppose it doesn't matter if he doesn't have to defend against Golovkin until next year.D J Pawsey wrote:Mundne is no.12 with the ibf at middle. If this fight was made I am sure geale camp could buy an extension on there mandatory against SolimanTrainInsane wrote:Wonder when we are going to hear who Geale will be fighting? Re: Geale v Mundane 2
Soliman is probably more deserving of a shot than Mundine based on their last couple of years results at middleweight. Soliman was also rated #1 by IBF last I looked.Brute wrote:Could well be Soliman. He is the IBF mandatory and rated higher than Mundine at this time. He is not rated at present. One would assume he would be in the top 15 after the was made. He is former WBA champ.TrainInsane wrote:Where does Mundine rate with WBA? Nowhere I'm thinking? Re: Geale v Mundane 2
Mundine won a token 3rd level WBA title when he beat Alvarez. But WBA stripped him of it for not fighting the regular champion Trout. I wouldn't think WBA would be going out of their way to grant him favours after that. He sure hasn't earned a high WBA middleweight ranking from his recent results.D J Pawsey wrote:He is not rated at present. One would assume he would be in the top 15 after the was made. Re: Geale v Mundane 2
It's called a sanction fee mate. It's a percentage of combined purses 3% I think. Probably the biggest earn they could get for that belt at the present time.
Re: Geale v Mundane 2
Pretty much comes down to if Geale chooses money or career growth. Can't see this fight doing any positives for him on a world scale. Financially though, very nice pay day.
Re: Geale v Mundane 2
Can ya forgive the guy for wanting a nice fat cheque to rematch Mundine? Given hes travelled to Germany twice and comeback with the goods! If anyone deserves a solid payday its Geale. Given he won comfortably im sure hed continue to set his sights on the top guys

Exactly what I was alluding to in my earlier post. That is that Mundine hasn't earned the ranking. So it's all about MONEYD J Pawsey wrote:It's called a sanction fee mate. It's a percentage of combined purses 3% I think. Probably the biggest earn they could get for that belt at the present time.

I think it was like an annoying 10 times over the course of 5 rounds.
Can Mundine now afford goons????Would anyone take notice if they did, Gary Shaw has done an unbelivable job in ensuring he doesn't get ripped, and in all places Germany.
I actually don't mind this fight, the first was one of the best fights i ever saw Mundine in.
