This has got to be one of the toughest fights to pick this domestically I reckon, as you have got in corner Junior Witter a former World Champion who has been in with some of the best guys at Light Welter and Welterweight in Tim Bradley, Zab Judah, Vivian Harris, Demarcus Corley, Andrey Koltentik who at 38 is in an Indian summer and looking at one last crack at a world title, fighting Frankie Gavin a powerful young lion of a fighter with a great amateur pedigree as well, and at the moment I am struggling to pick one at the moment because it is a real tough 50/50 fight as you can make strong arguments for both Witter and Gavin on this one.

I dont think beating Lynes makes an Indian Summer. He lost to El Macchi and out in Canada ffs. I strongly believe Gavin will win convincingly, despite Witter's efforts to spoil.IRLangmaid25 wrote:This has got to be one of the toughest fights to pick this domestically I reckon, as you have got in corner Junior Witter a former World Champion who has been in with some of the best guys at Light Welter and Welterweight in Tim Bradley, Zab Judah, Vivian Harris, Demarcus Corley, Andrey Koltentik who at 38 is in an Indian summer and looking at one last crack at a world title, fighting Frankie Gavin a powerful young lion of a fighter with a great amateur pedigree as well, and at the moment I am struggling to pick one at the moment because it is a real tough 50/50 fight as you can make strong arguments for both Witter and Gavin on this one.

Bit harsh mickey.
Junior is over the knee problems that hampered him and prevented him doing any roadwork and boxed superbly to regain the British title at the age of 38.
Been in a camp in the Canaries sparring with Brook, Galahad, Towers, Cameron and O'Maison still displaying great power and reflexes.
Witter won't be the one worrying. Let's hope Frankie turns up.

Got to second that Pugilist.
If Witter brings his A game Gavin will have to perform at a level, sadly, not seen.
Again same as Pugilist I think we have to wait a little bit yet - 3 weeeks to go.

My lad and fighter Nasser Al Harbi sparred Kel brook in sheffield last week ( by the way Kel looks sharp and powerful ) and Dominic told me that Junior Witter was in great shape and in the fitness tests came out in the top 3 out of all their boxers in the canaries, Junior is in great shape for this fight.Pugilist-specialist wrote:Bit harsh mickey.

It sounds like its gonna be a good fight then, cause I'm in the best shape of my career by far. This is my first shot at a major title an I won't be under estimating witter by any means. I'm sure were both be on top form!

Great to hear that Frankie.
If both of you are "prime" then this will be a cracker.

Re: Frankie Gavin v Junior Witter October 27th !
I think its a very interesting fight technically (esp first half of fight), perhaps not to the average Ricky Hatton fan but I'm thinking more about how they handle each others style rather than the 'spectacle' itself.
Re: Frankie Gavin v Junior Witter October 27th !
I agree with that; Junior is not the fighter he was but is not to be underestimated and Frankie has sailed close to the wind. I'm not sure how much Witter likes it to the body now though and Gavin does dig them in. If Junior lands flush though Frankie will know about it all right. It will be interesting who takes ring centre in this bout; I can imagine it either being a horrible clash or a really intelligent bout with some clean hitting.

Re: Frankie Gavin v Junior Witter October 27th !
this will be horrific to watch.
both fighters are terrible to watch at times with their defensive nature. witter might get the blame for it being a snoozer but it takes two to tango and gavin has a very unattractive style too

Fight rearranged for November @ York Hall.
Re: Frankie Gavin v Junior Witter October 27th !
Is that Thursday November the 1st ? If so it might be a fight academy show with the usual east London fighters ! Tickets may well go quick, I feel this could be one of the last opportunities to get close to watching Frankie Gavin for under £40 !JamesH wrote:Fight rearranged for November @ York Hall.

Agree, I do not rate Gavin as highly as some, in fact I do not know what all the fuss is about, but I am only 23 and not been a follower of boxing for too long.

I rate Frankie higher than some, so I'll try and summarise what I think the fuss is for, along with why there might be some pessimistic comments:Ratchet Exits Nu wrote:allahsnackbar wrote:this will be horrific to watch.

I think a lot of the excitement about Frankie stems from his gold at the world championships in the Ams, the only Brit ever to do that. This complimented the ridiculous array of medals, trophys and wins he'd gathered in the years previous. He failed to make the weight in Beijing and this was viewed as a slant on his attitude in some quarters, whereas others cited the fact he'd outgrown the weight having been struggling with it for some time. He couldn't have attempted to qualify at the higher weight as Bradley Saunders had already qualified for that.
Frank looked good early on in the paid ranks, surprising some with five consecutive stoppages. Frankies power has continued to develop since being a pro.
He is elusive, and when on form he slips shots and counters them as well as anyone I've seen, he can be that good. His non-televised clash on the Magnificent 7 was his best performance to then, but most people missed it. Then Lomax, and then the fight which seemed to turn the tide for Frankie, suffering from a cold he beat Young Mutley comfortably but without too much excitement in the fight, viewers weren't hugely impressed.
Then came the kick up the arse Frankie had been waiting for, in the form of the forums own Mr Woodhouse. Frankie was a huge favourite and plucky Curtis pushed him far closer than I expected him to be able to, and some of the pre-fight stuff didn't enamour Frankie to some posters - whereas Curtis thrived the underdog profile he had assumed (he also made a fan of me). I felt Frankie had been misunderstood but in any case, he has since shown that he has learned from it.
There were personal issues, a common excuse but in this case there really were, many were referred to on here. Thankfully Frankie seems in a far better place these days and blew the former British champ Kevin McIntyre away with cruel whipping bodyshots. A routine victory over Komjathi followed. The signs are showing that Frankies head is in the right place now, so he could be ready to be catapulted beyond the domestic scene should he do what I expect him to against Witter.
It's taken a little longer than we'd hoped, but the opportunity that some of us have waited years for is just around the corner. Frankie is an unbelievable talent, everything else that may have been questioned before appears to have been eradicated. And for the record, he's is and always has been a really decent and genuine fella. Its an exciting time for Frankie Gavin.

Re: Frankie Gavin v Junior Witter October 27th !
Frankie Gavin will school Junior Witter & stop the former world champion. Now I can already hear the cynics chuckles & roars of am I crazy, he'll never stop Witter, hes a former world champion, well I think he will. Frankie was schooling world class operators from the age of 15 - 16, around the world has a amatuer, some of whom were better than Witter in his prime has a world champion, and some of them have since gone on to be world champions and world class has pro's, and they tried but they couldnt lace Frankies boots. Plus Witter can not fight at a pace, even in his prime he couldn't before people start yelling that he's super fit for this fight & he's got a 32 pack and all the rest of it, Juniors legs have gone, & I guarantee when Frankie starts whipping in them accurate, well timed body shots Witter will crumble, YES Witter can bang and Frankie will have to be fully concentrating the whole fight and stay switched on, but he can and will. I don't see this fight going past 9 rounds. Frankie's fitness, work rate & body punching is greatly underestimated and in time people will start to realise this. People have not seen the real potential of Frankie Gavin yet for various reasons, all genuine aswell but when they do they'll see the natural gifted genius skills and ability he possesses in abundance. AND THE NEW

Well I'm 5ft 9 or 10 an most welters I'm next too are similar size... An I killed myself as an amateur not doing it again as a pro! So get this win out the way an move on!
Re: Frankie Gavin v Junior Witter October 27th !
its an interesting fight. we know witter is on the way out, but that doesnt mean hes not dangerous enough to take some with him. id still like to see witter v hatton as hatton made his money and it would be anopportunity for witter to get a retirement fund as well as maybe prove his point. obviously the fight should have happened years ago , but it still seems viable. if gavin cant win this fight convincingly then it would seem that it would be a case of him not having the discipline to back up his talent. then again if he does it in style we could be looking at gavin vs khan etc.
Re: Frankie Gavin v Junior Witter October 27th !
hes obviously not gone yet if he holds the british title....and like some of the other posters who are in the know say that hes been dealing with injuries ....who knows if hes having an indian summer.
Re: Frankie Gavin v Junior Witter October 27th !
Compared to what he was you are right; what he's got left though; he's enough on his day for just about anyone in Britain; Lynes is a very tasty boxer. Frankie should have made more of his ability; circumstances have been against him but 5 years after his great win in the Worlds (he did very little after that as an amatuer) he ought to be ranked, on achievement, high in the World stakes. Witter is still dangerous; if Curtis can give him life or death (no disrespect intended..) then Witter can put him out of sight and mind.Pigg Wilson wrote:I think he's been and gone for four yearsjimcook wrote:its an interesting fight. we know witter is on the way out, but that doesnt mean hes not dangerous enough to take some with him. id still like to see witter v hatton as hatton made his money and it would be anopportunity for witter to get a retirement fund as well as maybe prove his point. obviously the fight should have happened years ago , but it still seems viable. if gavin cant win this fight convincingly then it would seem that it would be a case of him not having the discipline to back up his talent. then again if he does it in style we could be looking at gavin vs khan etc.
