Fury vs Price : 50 - 50 fight in my eyes

Post by Quixall »

I believe any Fury vs Price fight would be 50 - 50 at this moment in time.

David Price did a good job tonight, but he was up against a slow, old, deluded and probably frightened Audley Harrison, who hasn't performed at his best for years. I don't think the victory over Harrison proves anything other than what we already knew, that Price has good power. Fury has that win over Chisora, so in terms of opponents quality wise, Fury edges Price at the moment. We know that Price can bang and we also know that Fury can bang aswell. We have seen Fury on the canvas and in trouble a few times, but we have yet to see Price really tested. In terms of technique and ability, they are about on the same level, but i get the impression that people would favour Price because of they assume that he has more power than Fury and that if he connects anyone will go down.

I think it's an interesting fight. Tyson seems a rather unpredictable character and tonight's interview on Channel five proves that. Entertaining yes, slightly unhinged, possibly, bravado, for sure and no doubt slightly apprehensive about what Price would bring to a fight. Price seems a very calm confident character and i am sure that come fight night the mind set of the fighters would have a huge impact on the result. I reckon that Price will try and get under Fury's skin and hope he comes out swinging bombs, hoping to catch him. Where as Fury has looked in trouble in fights and been flattened on occasions, Price always looks in control and in a comfort zone and hasn't had his own mediceine dished out to him as yet. Fury would be the ideal opponent, big in stature and physique, game, big power and a little more experience.

I would call it a 50-50 fight, maybe down to who connects cleanly wins the fight.

No, not at all............

It's a close fight and you have to look at Price's opponents to date. Don't fall into the trap of thinking that everyone will get blown away by Prices' power. This would be the first time that Price would be up against a guy who can negate and return what Price gives out.

No, they are both still learning and technique wise are pretty similar. Don't forget that Fury beat Chisora who in turn gave Vitali a run for his money and held his own against Haye for a decent amount of rounds. Fury is no mug my friend.

Top Trumps style (feel free to disagree)

Height: Fury
Reach: Fury
Weight: Draw
Age: Fury (youth = win)
Power: Price
Chin: Fury
Speed/ Movement: Fury
Testostorone levels/anger: Fury (basically goes hand in hand with age tbf)
Pro Fight experience: Fury
Defence: Price
Trashtalk Fury

Fury wins quite clearly in my eyes if he waits 15 months and continues to pack on muscle and experience.

Price's chin has yet to be tested in the pros. But was found wanting in the amateurs.

And most significantly a chubby, muscle free Fury put Price on the floor for a count in the only time they fought.

He did on points. But Fury put Price on his backside for a count.

Fury was 17 at the time I believe.

Price destroys Fury, and Fury well knows it. Hence the ducking.

Fury's lack of defence would be his undoing, and his chin is not 'solid' as some say. An obese, unprepared Chisora almost had him out of there in their fight, and Chisora isn't even a puncher.

And he lost to John McDermott, regardless of what Terry O'Connor said.

I got to disagree with most of this. Firstly, if this fight is going to happen it will be in the next six months. The time is right and now it is time for Fury to put up or shut up.

Height - no difference an inch more for Fury isn't going to make a huge difference. Age makes no difference because they are both relatively young and early into their careers.

Power & Chin - If Fury gets hit with one clean shot by Price, he will go down. Fury doesn't have that much power, he went the distance with Mc Dermott and Chisora. They have been stopped and Chisora was in terrible shape for the Fury fight and Fury couldn't take advantage and stop him. It doesn't matter what Price's chin is like, if they both swing at the same time Fury will most likely go down.

Speed & Movement - They are big heavyweights makes no difference.

Anger - This is a funny one. If Fury comes in angry and goes straight at Price looking for wild hayemakers guess what he will leave himself open. I don't need to explain anymore.

I agree the height won't make any difference suffice to say though it will be the first time ever for Price it isn't a significant advantage.

The reach though very much is important. Harrison had a longer reach but his 'jab' is a pathetic paw. Fury has an even longer reach and it is properly ramrod, the fact he can switch stances so his jab hand is his KO cross/backhand kind of emphasises this.

If you watch the footage Fury has just posted on twitter of him flooring Price, you can see that Price's head gets snapped back pretty heavily by the jab a couple of times before Fury KDs him.

The Jab is the key. If Fury can control his anger, Price isn't actually getting near him.

Fury for me.

He is the bigger man
Faster hands
More durable
Can do 12 rounds at a good pace
and that brings me on to more experience
Fought better opposition

Price's only advantage as far as I can see is the power he brings, that right hand he has is a deadly weapon and though Fury doesn't possess that kind of power - he doesn't need to to KO David Price, Price would have to go and get him out early because Fury would stop Price in around 7 rounds.

Give this man a Gold Star :TU:

And if Fury with his significantly longer and stronger jab stops Price basically being able to land the right unless over reaching, it is an easy night's work for Fury.

Anyone doubting this should have a quick look at the footage on Twitter Fury has just posted of him controlling the range and then surprisingly easily putting Price on his arse.

You also have to consider that Price was about the same age as Fury is now when this happened and Fury was a kid.

This is a 60/40 fight in Fury's favour unless you think KOing a 41 yr old Audley Harrison who lost to Martin bloody Rogan (who Fury dispatched without taking a shot) is a feather in his cap.

I'd fancy price massively.price has the three p's power,pedigree & precision.

I think fury has more grit & steel. But they might not even come into play when he is blown away

I just saw your post as I posted mine. Agree with all that you say and for the poster who dismissed Fury's speed advantage because they are both 'big heavyweights' is silly. Price was dropped heavily by Golden Johnson (the Indian lad in the commonwealth games) and Allen Kasongo and no amount of training and fitness and power will sort out that huge drawback - the day he steps up is the day he will get knocked out. Fury surely is the favourite for this one.

It was a strange comment -speed kills.

And when there is no size or weight difference then it becomes even more significant.

Fury is wide open to a straight right, as he showed when he was knocked on his back by that non-punching Canadian.
Now, name a heavyweight with a great straight right hand?

If you're basing your case on Fury beating an out of shape Chisora you're talking out of your hole.
