Klitschko W12 Peters
Klitschko wins on points 114-111 on all 3 cards. Wladi down twice in the 5th and again in the 10th. Peters badly rocked halfway through the 12th. I thought Wladi won most of the other rounds with good use of the jab and tying Peters up when he came in close.
Hey! how come you saw it so long ago? Have you been tinkering with one of your weather satellites?
It was a night of dramatic boxing wasn't it?
Wlad showed that the fragility is still there - if he's not totally on top for even 15 seconds of a round it can all go horribly wrong.
It pretty much played out the way i expected but i thought we'd see a little more confidence like Steward promised.
Thinking about it i think Wlad's problem might be his lack of ego. There aren't many top athletes who make as many self depreciating jokes as him.
Like Jim Watt said he looked like he was half expecting it to go wrong at any minute. This wasn't a problem with someone like LL who refused to believe his opponent was capable of beating him - (to his cost of course).
Peter can come again, he's got time to rebuild & relearn like Benn did after his loss to Watson. But can he retool as well as Nigel did? Fact is he probably won't need to. His power alone is probably enough to keep rolling along at contendor level.

Yeah, I re-programmed the weather satellites to my advantage during the night.....no, I've got a box to get German TV at home and as luck would have it I woke up at 4 in the morning and decided I might as well watch the fight.
I thought it was an interesting fight. Klitschko looks ready to go at any moment, but he had the tactics absolutely bang on. I thought Peters was actually a little one dimensional - it was a fight he could have won, but I don't think he could suss Klitschko out close up.
As Silkov said, there's time for Peters to become a player yet, but if I was an up and coming heavyweight I'd want a pop at Klitschko. Audley and Matt Skelton would have a chance with Klitschko because he looks so vulnerable.
On the other hand, maybe Klitschko's confidence will be boosted by this result and he'll be much stronger next time out.....

Skelton looks like Ali next to Peter, he is awful. Puff and blowing after a minute of intense pressure in the 5th, poor handspeed even worse foot speed.
Wladimir is that weary of his chin I even think Chris Byrd might score a rare KO should they meet.
It is hard to say that Wladimir showed great bottle by surviving the 5th, because Peter really did allow him to survive as he did nothing till the 10th. He was more knackered than Wlad, who I did think survive the stamina test.
I would like to see Skelton in with a puncher before passing a final judgement (Danny Williams) but if he has a good chin himself, I tip him to beat both of these - I really do.

I had £195 on Klitschko...... I am not sure I am going to ever bet on Wladimir though - too stressful...
I need a drink, I don't care how early it is.
I got to say though - I am sick of Sky introducing fights with the words 'this is an exciting fight you don't want to miss' 'this lived up to the hype' 'don'ttake your eyes off the fight' etc etc
It really ruins fights - it takes the drama out of the drama and gives you a hint of what will happen.
You know a fight won't end in the first round when they say this, and you also know that it will be back and forth - so when one guy goes over and is in trouble, you always know he's going to come back.....
Why do they continue doing this?

Good question. Samuel 'The Nigerian Nightmare' Peter, who had knocked over about 20 stiffs on his way up the ladder.AlexY2K4 wrote:Who is Peters?
I'd never seen much of him before. Very limited but also very game. Does anyone know who has seen a bit of him - had he ever been hurt in his career before the 12th of last night's contest? He looked like he had a great chin.

yeah I thought about it - put some money on the over. Wlad can be cautious and Peter just LOOKS like he had a good chin....achybreaky wrote:I was sweating big time mate was a bit drunk when i put the bet on, didnt see the fight going any other imo.
But didn't feel confident enough - just put it on the win. Should have dumped at least a tenner on the points, rest on Wlad.
Not sure my heart can take betting on Wladimir agin though - he is so talented but so chinny...very odd considering is brother.
Now, if you could get Wlad's skills with Peter's chin, you would have one of the best heavies ever....

Peter is seriously limited, he just waddles forward and throws those huge looping bombs, i was interested to hear the HBO interviewer pick up on the round 5 knockdowns as they were both a bit dodgy in my eyes. Just clubbing shots and brute strength forcing Klitschko down to the canvas, the first landed behind the head. Wlad beat Peter on Boxing ability but i know this sounds harsh but Klitschko's future as a top contender/champion is as good as finished! Against someone like Peter he can outskill his man but when he meets a well conditioned guy who keeps coming forward he will fall to pieces, Wlad is just too brittle!
The end round reminded me of Bruno-McCall's last round, Klitschko desperately holding on while the shorter chunkier guy came forward. In fact Peter reminds me a bit of McCall, shorter guy, strong chin, comes forward a lot. But seriously, the future of the division? No way

Comes forward so slooowwlly though, McCall was a different league to Peter, and he wasn't very good.
Peter was god damn awful, his stamina was piss poor.
Sorry I was so dissapointed with both and reading posts on various forums is making me very frustrated.
1) I hope thats the end of the Peter hype, but it appears it will not be - people saying he can come back, not with stamina like that.
2) No this doesn't answer the questions of Wlad's stamina, Peter didn't exert enough pressure to test it. He was a heavy back at times and Klitchsko was dictating the action.
3) Some folk are even saying this confirms that Klitchsko has a good chin!!!! WTF, apparent Peter landed 100 punches - I demand a recount. Noway did he land more than 50.
4) Some folk are also saying that this showed Klitchsko has a fighting spirit, and survival instincts. Not so sure because Peter was so dissapointing with his pressure.
I honestly think if Skelton proves his chin he can beat Wlad. He will at least throw more punchers, extert a faster pressure and not by gasping after 5 rounds.

Klits stamina was good enough for him to keep throwing jabs and straights. A pressure fighter like 80s-90s Tyson or 90s Holy would walk brutalise him, but that fighter doesn't exist today. His biggest threats are Brester, Rahman, Toney and Peter who hes just beat. Anyone else he'll walk through easily except Tua who he'd have to be content with outboxing. I'd pick him as favourate in every fight out there - I wouldn't put money on him when he fights a puncher again though.

I was dissapointed in Peter last night, he looked like he didn't have a clue on how to cut the ring off, even when he had Wlad hurt he blew himself out within a minute so couldn't finish him off.
Maybe it was nerves that cost him alot of energy, he did seem very tight at the first bell, he looked as if he had trained hard, there wasn't any spare fat on him.
As for Skelton aginst Klitschko , Skelton may stand a chance if he got to Wlads chin, but i think it would be quite an easy win for Klitschko , he does tie people up on the inside well , which is where Skelton would be looking to work.
I'm not wholly convinced in Skeltons ability to take a world class heavys power either, so feel Klitschko would win inside of 5 rounds

I would like to see the punch stats to see how many shots Wlad was throwing per round and see if it slowed down as the fight progressed. I thought it slowed considerably.Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote:Skeleton can beat Wlad nowstujones wrote: 2) No this doesn't answer the questions of Wlad's stamina, Peter didn't exert enough pressure to test it. Was it Mirkovic Skeleton went life and death with?

Obviously, I did stress that Skelton's chin is untested at world class and even lower than that. That would be a factor I would have to consider before making a final analysis.
I don't think you have to be a particularly great pressure fighter to beat him. I don't think Sanders is a great pressure fighter - just had quicker leg speed than Peter. I would tip the Sanders who fought Vitali to beat Wlad - Sanders hasn't officially retired but has probably gone back further now. I think Skelton's leg speed can make Wlad work harder than he did last night and it might prove too much. He could also tire Klitchsko further his is own mauling approach.
Far harder to tie up a fighter who is on average 10 lbs bigger than you and has some experience of in fighting. When Peter was being tied up he did nothing and he had one arm free. Skelton is usually in a mauling match but when in that situation he does try and work (a little) with a free hand. In the Sprott fight I tended to score most of the rounds for Skelton for that reason, he seemed to be throwing something in the many clinches, whereas Sprott was just laying there.topper123 wrote:

As for comparing Skelton's power with those who have beaten or floored Klitchsko - PN, you forgot to mention Purity and Williamson) - then yes Skelton is not the puncher of these but I don't think he has to be to beat Klitchsko. I think it was only one of the Sanders KD's that looked like a flush shot, the punches that hurt Klitchsko last night were not flush either.
I am not a fan of Skelton, read my archive posts here, but I think he can exert enough pressure to make Klitchsko work a little harder than usually, he can also smother Klitchsko's punches (as he did vs Sprott) which means the power isn't there. I think he could do a Brewester, it doesn't take a Mike Tyson to bomb out a tired fighter and Skelton could fight/smoother/maul at a pace that tires out Klitchsko and can take him out in the mid/late rounds. Thats of course providing his own chin is fine - I have no doubts that he has the stamina to do this.

Sanders got lucky - Wlads defense was VASTLY IMPROVED - blocking with his right, holding (yes boring but effective), keeping distance (few hooks), great timing of the right. Remember Sanders beat Sprott in what 2rounds? Compare that to Skelleton taking 12 roudns on him - its safe to say Sanders hits comparably harder. Personally I don't think Skelleton hits hard enough to bother Wlad too much - and yes Wlads chin is weak but Skeleton really doesn't bang that hard.stujones wrote:I would like to see the punch stats to see how many shots Wlad was throwing per round and see if it slowed down as the fight progressed. Also the Sanders that fought Wlad was 225, the 1 that fought Vitali was 235 - Sanders didn't do road work and he lay on the ropes after R2. So the Sanders that fought Wlad was nearer prime - Sanders prime weight was 215 (no pop belly at that weight)
Wlad really can bang too - I'm really sounding like a Klit-hugger' but I'm just trying to emphasise the difference in class. Oh and Brewsters a class above Skeleton too for that matter.

Klistchko fought well, did the best he could; well done Manny Steward. Hard to say Peter was 'exposed' since so many people have been writing the truth about him (though I don't read any other forums so maybe I'm missing out). Wlad's tactics were right allllllll the way through: fast start throwing lots of punches (I gave him a thumbs up at his pounce on the first bell), keep moving to the side, get to about the midway stage and see what he's got - he was still up for it, so back on yer bike - don't take no chances. Hold in close: this was crucial. Should be good with that - hurting him in the 12th was a good bonus (not least with the judges).
I had thought Klischko would tire badly in the championship rounds, at least his arms would because of how muscley he looked. But I forgot these big super-tall heavy's (like Lennox Lewis) don't often keep their hands up at their head like the guys in the lower weights - usually it's naturally around their belly because that's about level with their opponents shoulders. Hope I don't offend any Lennox fans but Wlad, or his tactics at least - reminded me a bit of Lewis. Maybe it's the Manny Steward influence... he has his faults, but he does know how to train a taller fighter to beat a smaller guy. Did it for years with Hearns.
The referee was poor, I thought. I've seen Randy Neumann put in a fair few performances that have raised a few questions, but his failure to acknowledge those rabbit punches was particularly worrying. Especially since it was pretty obvious Peter would go to such lengths (http://www.boxrec.com/forum/viewtopic.p ... 048#307048). Rabbit punches are a pet peeve of mine among boxing fouls, for the most part because of how easily they can cause blindness.

I thought quite early on in the fight that Wlad was trying to copy certain things from Lennox Lewis’s style, in conjunction with Steward. Just the way he flicked out the jab, his stance, tying Peter up whenever he got close, reminded me a bit of Lewis’s win over David Tua, although clearly Lennox did it with a more style against a better opponent.
I found it pretty boring to watch though, aside from the rounds with knockdowns. You just felt at any given moment a sustained attack would be good enough to put Wlad away but Peter couldn’t manage it.
Why was this a 12 rounder by the way? Billed as en eliminator it should have been 10 rounds. Of just checked it was for NABF title or something, so that's a Ukranian against a Nigerian for the North American title? What bollox.

Klitschko was pretty bad, his next defeat is only just around the corner I'm sure. What I couldn't get was why he almost completely neglected his lead left hook all night? This used to be his favourite shot, maybe he was too afraid to hurt Peter incase the guy got mad. That was the impression I got through most of the fight. Look how he landed the hook on a tiring Peter in the last round and nearly had him out.
