Does he get alittle over looked when talking the great British fighters don the years? Not saying he was the best we've ever produced, but I hardly hear his name mentioned....

No doubt about it; he was a great figher. He had some great fights with Abe Attell, Ad Wolgast, Battling Nelson,Packey McFarland, and Jem Driscoll.

As for for why he is largley ignored, he has some things working against him:

-Probably the biggest reason is that he isn't considered a world champion. (lost controversial fight to Wolgast for light weight title. 2 draws against champion Attell for featherweight title)
-Fought a long time ago and so isn't familar to many people.
-He fought in the lower weight classes.

Moran came from Birmingham, half an hour's drive from where I live - and he's not even celebrated in his home city... I remember Mike Tyson in the late 80s when he was champion doing a long interview with Harry Carpenter for the BBC about boxing history and mentioning Owen Moran as one of the fighters he admired most when he watched Jim Jacobs' old tapes... Moran had a claim to the world bantamweight title after a win over Al Delmont in 1907 but it fizzled out, then as has been said drew with Abe Attell at featherweight and lost to Ad Wolgast at lightweight....he fought the best men of his day... another reason he hasn't really received proper recognition is that, by all accounts, written and having talked to one or two old boxing people around here long ago, he wasn't exactly a man people warmed to, especially after he'd had a drink. That may or may not be unfair. Whatever the truth of that, you're right - he deserves better recognition.
