VIP OLDHAM SHOW CANCELLED
In keeping with a policy of only staging shows that are value for money, VIP Promotions have reluctantly cancelled their scheduled card at the Oldham Sports Centre on Saturday October 20 after a series of fighter withdrawals and bout cancellations.
Originally to be headlined by Manchester’s Karl ‘Bulbhead’ Place and Blackpool’s Jack Arnfield in 10-round title fights, and with an undercard that included rising stars Tommy Stubbs and Liam Taylor, the show was shaping up to be another quality VIP affair. These fighters will now appear on future VIP shows planned for December.
“We’ve had a great start to the season with three excellent shows in Manchester, Blackpool and Bolton,” stated VIP Promotions’ chief, Steve Wood, “and we maybe could have gone ahead with the Oldham show. We decided though that we didn’t want to jeopardise our hard-won reputation as one of the UK’s top promoters by staging something we weren’t completely happy with.
“With various fighters pulling out, mainly with medical and injury issues, we’ve now taken the decision to cancel. We lost both title fights, along with Alex Rutter, Marvin Greaves, Tommy Stubbs and Anthony Smith. It’s a tough time economically for people, and we’ve always been about quality cards not quantity. I realise it’s quite short notice, but I hope boxing fans will appreciate our commitment to only staging worthy and entertaining shows.”
Fans that have purchased tickets for the show at the Oldham Sports Centre on October 20 will be able to get a full refund at point of sale.

To cancel at such short notice is not good! A good promoter would have a plan B and plan C if fighters pull out! Also it's not good for the Boxers who have worked so hard to sell tickets to there fans and now they have got to turn to them and tell them " it's off, here is your money back hope you don't mind, but please buy off me again in the future" :-/

LMAO Cheers, pal!MachoMan09 wrote:Stegsie, you sheepskin coat wearing scally, what is the plan with Arnfield, pal? When is he going to get moved forward a bit? He's never going to break skulls, and he had his 'vacation', but he's got skills and heart. What's the plan?
As far as Jack goes then yes he is in the gym and as you say he has got some cracking skills and heart.
No news as yet on anything specific, but as always I'll post it on here as soon as there is something.
Cheers.

Kamikase ,
No one likes pulling shows less than me mate and I think only about 6 have been pulled in 16 years.
On this one plan A , B and C were exhausted and on such short notice no chance to exercise a plan D. I know it is a bad job giving money back but the other option was to take the money and put on a shit show , they would never come back again then .
You need to look at the full picture.

i was going
Re: VIP Boxing Show Oldham - Cancelled
the right decision steve i go to a lot of shows and nothing worse than paying and watching uneven fights where someone has come in on a day or so notice. must b awful wen u hav so many pull outs but injury and illness happen.
Re: VIP Boxing Show Oldham - Cancelled
Agree with the decision, it's a brave one and will have cost the promoter time and money, so nuff respect.

I agree - however what is the win/loss ration for "home fighters" on their own promoters shows (not just VIP, but all promoters ?).maley1984 wrote:the right decision steve i go to a lot of shows and nothing worse than paying and watching uneven fights where someone has come in on a day or so notice. must b awful wen u hav so many pull outs but injury and illness happen.
