Dillian Whyte v John Mcdermott English Title
Who you got?
Re: Dillian Whyte v John Mcdermott English Title
Dillian looks like a monster and is banging people out for fun, but this is a step up for sure and a good test.
Still think Whyte though - stoppage...very very powerful.

Whyte, first half of the fight. I think Whyte has got something about him, aggressive, seems willing to seek out good spars, on the surface appears dedicated. Might be a touch small as he progresses through the levels?
I've also got a hunch that the pasting by Price was a hard pill to swallow for McDermott after some unlucky verdicts against Williams and Fury. I'm not sure if his heart is 100% in it anymore.

Depends on his mindset, which I've no right to presume. I think the point where he saw himself filling the hole left by Williams/Sprott/Harrison/Skelton only to be overtaken by Fury/Chisora/Price must have hurt though. Sexton/Towers/Whyte all make interesting fights for him but will he ever be a British champion? Can't see it now and I wonder if he's beginning to think this way tooMachoMan09 wrote:Has the time come when McDermott will get more out of the game by going on the 'circuit' than by working hard for wins?

Ive been wondering about this guy for a while now
seen the odd bit of 4 round action as he beats up some hungarian hillbilly etc
but ive liked the idea of him being useful for some reason , almost as if something has drawn me to him without me realising .
will certainly be interesting and is the 3rd bit of news ive liked today following the Groves announcement and the overseas fights on allegedly .

If John goes into any fight with the right mindset he wins..............

ANY fight......not sure i'd go as far as that mate???Londonirish wrote:If John goes into any fight with the right mindset he wins..............
Re: Dillian Whyte v John Mcdermott English Title
Like many McDermott fights i'd give him a chance providing he makes it out of the 1st 3 rounds, Whyte is powerful and raw so the longer it goes the more i favor big John with the better stamina
Re: Dillian Whyte v John Mcdermott English Title
I like the Villain. He's exciting, slightly unorthodox, and very powerful (with all his shots). I'm glad that his time as a novice pro is approaching an end, and now we should start to find out how good he is.
If McDermott is up for it, it's 50-50. I think he will be, cos its for the English.
It's a shame, for both fighters, that it's not on in London. This is a cracking bill topper at the York Hall.

He's a very underrated fighter, that's for sure. Good skills, good chin, good stamina. Nerves and dreadful bad luck have ruined him on a few occasions.Crazyboy wrote:ANY fight......not sure i'd go as far as that mate???Londonirish wrote:If John goes into any fight with the right mindset he wins..............
Have you seen him much in training recently, Martin?

Don't think much to Whyte, seen him live a few times and watched him last week on the Degale undercard against another fat out of shape eastern european ( poor stoppage IMO ) and again nothing really stood out for me, i know people will say he hits hard, ( like any heavyweight, but not exceptionally un-like Price or Haye concussive ) plus its easy to load up when its stationary target practise, saying that he seems a nice lad and is a big lump at about 17st 4lb, but will get taken out seriously at domestic level, lots of basic mistakes, IMO needs a bit longer to learn his trade, he's very young in comparison for a heavyweight, whereas McDermott is a well schooled boxer, bags of experience with great stamina, decent mobility and decent chin, if he turns up and is 100% fit and up for it then he will box the ears off Dillian, IMO

Yeah fair point. I hope John can win this as it will be shame for him to fade out and start losing to fighters he has more boxing ability than.
Re: Dillian Whyte v John Mcdermott English Title
Are you saying Whyte has less ability that McDermott? we will see i suppose, but i'll tell you now Big John will know he has been in a fight and i think Whyte will win.TopGun wrote:Boxingcutsman wrote:Don't think much to Whyte, seen him live a few times and watched him last week on the Degale undercard against another fat out of shape eastern european ( poor stoppage IMO ) and again nothing really stood out for me, i know people will say he hits hard, ( like any heavyweight, but not exceptionally un-like Price or Haye concussive ) plus its easy to load up when its stationary target practise, saying that he seems a nice lad and is a big lump at about 17st 4lb, but will get taken out seriously at domestic level, lots of basic mistakes, IMO needs a bit longer to learn his trade, he's very young in comparison for a heavyweight, whereas McDermott is a well schooled boxer, bags of experience with great stamina, decent mobility and decent chin, if he turns up and is 100% fit and up for it then he will box the ears off Dillian, IMO

Sentiment is nice but in reality this fight is a good one to test both fighters current status and mindset

Yes I believe John is the better boxer. He is compact and is never wild like Whyte. Don't get me wrong, this could be good timing for Whyte as John is on his last legs. I think Dillian would struggle against an inform Mcdermott back in the day. John has great head movement and is harder to hit than you realise.
