Vitali Klit-Peter

I was in Berlin on holiday and thought it about time I actually attended a fight. Bought tickets and was back a month later.
I was quite pleased with elements of the undercard as I got to see Julius Long (a perverse fascination of mine) get mullered by Ustinov and Solis labour to a win over Welliver (another one of my guilty secret faves).

The ringwalk was a moment I'll never forget. The crowd thereafter would not have offended an easily-piqued librarian.

I went to that. First one for me was Henry's debut in Harrogate in 1989 which also featured Fogerty and the debut of Gale, too. Went to a few amatuer's before then, starting in Bridlington in 1988!

The first ever show i went to was an amateur one, can't really remember when as i went to a few. I think the first professional fight i went to was Hatton against Dennis Pedersen (I think) when it should have been Kelsen Pinto.

I really dont remember the bellew and burns fights but i remmber the hugger fight for some reaon really vividly
Same as me mate, I was only reading the programme on the weekend during a cleanup under my stairs, didn't even realise Bellew and Burns were on the bill! The fight from the undercard that sticks out in my mind is Jones vs Saheed, Silence Saheed is one crazy ass boxer, his style was mental!!
I'm sure I sat through every fight and completely forgot that I saw Burns and Bellew. Also think that Vegas won his fight against Cleverly.

World Amateur Boxing Champinoships in 1991 in Sydney.

I went to a few evenings through the championships, the stand out fighter for me was Kostya Tszyu, who was head and shoulders above Vernon Forrest in the final. Great talent. On a par talent wise was imo the remarkable Roberto Balado, an extremely quick, elusive, accurate puncher. All other Super heavyweights I've seen are snails in comparison. Shame he died so young.

Below those, Felix Savon was a showman and comfortably won his title, Torsten May was a strong fella at the weight. David Tua was on display, Oscar De la Hoya lost in his first fight against a German if I remember correctly.

Tszyu and Balado always stick in the mind though.

Just found a little Balado against Brian Neilson.

How good was Mills? He was mentioned in a crap book where everyone in the gym seemed to be spinning the author a line, he was highlighted as the ex big punching prospect who could have been a star with better luck etc
Looking at his record he seems to be a hit or be hit fighter, stopped many times in a career where he was consistently the home fighter and only fought one British champ in 50 fights

Neary v Holligan in the tent in Stanley Park in Liverpool in 1998. Awesome atmosphere. Been to probably about 30 or 40 since but that was up there with the best in terms of atmosphere. Next year I wanna go and see Mayweather in Vegas.
