Erik Morales and drug test

Post by Old bones Ian »

Reports coming out of America are saying Morales has failed a pre-fight drug test for steroids, strangely they are also saying that his 'b' sample test won't happen until after the fight, so the fight is still on.

Interesting, I only hope the levels are not that high - my god imagine (heaven forbid) if Danny Garcia got seriously hurt.... how much could his advisors sue the athletic commision for allowing a fight, known with high level beforehand, to fight.

I can understand the issue with the B sample.... and it would be unfair on Morales not to fight without the chance for the B sample to come back.... but just get the results of them through quicker.

Excellent that they have clearly doing a pre check, but they need to get the results back quicker.

It's not steroid. It does, though, help you strip off fat whilst preserving muscle mass. Considering Morales' failure to make weight last time out, it wouldn't surprise me if he has looked at all manner of methods of doing the weight whilst maintaining as much strength as possible.

Mexican farmers are widely known to use clenbuterol in their cattle herds and positive tests in sportsmen have been overturned as a result of this. HOWEVER, this has been well publicised and sportsmen such as Alberto Contador (who is a Spanish cyclist for those unaware) have since cynically attempted to use the "contaminated meat" line when caught. It didn't wash with the UCI and he was banned.
It is indeed this substance you mention that has shown up on his A sample. Just to think Golden Boy have decided to use the USADA, because VADA keep catching fighters on their cards and now the USADA have found something anyway. I bet Richard Schaefer is feeling like he can't catch a break right now.

Can't really see the benefit of using clen excpet to cut weight for the weigh in, surely could have done this without it.

And as for Lance Armstrong comment... I suppose all other cyclists dont use any sort of ped's???

Not all; Lance is the one in the news this week and last, (there are scores of other top cyclists I could have named).
