Robbie Bryant v Martin Murray

Post by amwsnw »

I heard about the possibility of this bout some time ago. Has anyone else heard of this happening? It was to be on the undercard of Ricky Hattons comeback fight. I think it would be a great opportunity for Robbie. Win, lose or draw a great chance to financially make his biggest pay day and professionally get world wide exposure.

I haven't heard of it before. Certainly a huge step-up for Robbie if it does happen and Murray would have to be a huge favourite.

Not only is Murray the higher ranked and more experienced, he's also a lot bigger than Bryant, taller and naturally heavier (he's come down from Super Middleweight, while Bryant has come up from Light Middleweight).

Murray is on the card, I don't know if his opponent has been named yet.

According to PABA site, Bryant is defending the title against Fletcher 2 weeks later??

Bad move for Robbie if he has chosen Fletcher ahead of Murray !! Not because I think Fletcher is more dangerous but I feel as a professional that a fight against Murray would have been huge for his career...that said no one has actually confirmed he was ever offered the fight with Murray. Fletcher v Bryant should be a beauty.

I suspect PABA fight is bullshit, as was scheduled March 3 last year, with Letoa replacing Fletch @ 4 days notice. IMO false advertising (name on loan for a fee) at its best @ the time.
Fletch is avoiding Oz title mandatory challenger Omar Shaick, which is now due.

The fight was indeed offered. Doesn't look to be happening at this point, which in my opinion is a huge opportunity lost.

If this is indeed correct, and I am only assuming Robbie's camp have decided to forgoe a fight with Murray to defend the PABA title, can someone who is a little more in the know explain why ?? I find this ludicrous. If Rob went over and fought Murray, and worst case scenario lost, he wouldnt lose his PABA title. So he could come back to Australia and fight before a couple of thouosand at a local show and defend, or attempt to defend his PABA title. He would still have the financial reward and experience of fighting before 30000 people and world wide exposure. Im not sure if he is injured or what the go is as I do not know Robbie, although I have supported him for several years. Just doesnt make sense. I am sure those close to the camp read boxrec so any insight would be appreciated.

If he lost the fight @ middleweight limit, PABA title would be history.

If it's not for the PABA title why would he lose it ??

A little birdy tells me the fight between Murray and Bryant was going to be for the interim world title !! so i doubt he loses the PABA if he gets the L.

PABA rule mate. Once upon a time champ would lose the title if he lost even though the fight was over the limit. View Paul Murdoch vs Tosca Petridis dec 2002 http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_ ... &cat=boxer

Shit hey. Still doesnt make sense to keep hold of the PABA title and give up an opportunity that was given to him.

Sorry to buck the trend, but I think it would be a horrible mismatch.

Dont be sorry Brute, thats your opinion. And I some what agree. But, the issue I have is that Robbie is putting together a nice record and opportunities such as these only come along once. Even a loss to Murray wouldnt have impacted on Robbies standing on the domestic stage, and may have opened doors internationally if he put on a decent performance.

There is no reason that fight should have had any detrimental affects on Frank back home. I was of the understanding there have been some outside influences that caused Frank some issues, but if he is reading I would like to know what his plans are.

Frank is only two weeks short of going a year without a fight. At 34, if he does not start fighting again soon he is on the slide.

I see the schedule has been updated to show Bryant v Fletcher. Ty Colman has had press release which is on AUS Boxing.
Ty has cited the negotiations dragging on as a reason for the bout with Fletcher, and not taking a bout with Murray. I am interested to know how long the negotiations were dragging on. I thought a contract had been sent a couple of weeks ago.
Daniel Dawson is also on the card, with TBA as the opponent..lets hope negotiations dont drag on too long for his opponent to be named.
As disappointed as I am that Robbie isnt fighting Murray, Fletcher v Bryant should be a cracker. Looking forward to it.
