ripped off by bookmakers.... ?
I went to a bookmakers on friday and placed £40 on Klitchko to win the fight, went to collect my winnings today only to be told that when you put a bet on "to win" points dont count. Anyone else heard of this ?

I've put bets on in the past which have specified that they have to win inside the distance, but surely if you had just bet to win then you should get paid on a points victory IMO

This is bollox. Unless you specify the manner in which they win as part of your bet, then a points win is a win...Chambers2 wrote:No.Wales wrote:I went to a bookmakers on friday and placed £40 on Klitchko to win the fight, went to collect my winnings today only to be told that when you put a bet on "to win" points dont count. I won £250 on Klitchko for the straight win.
Very odd.
I always bet online anyway - less hassle. [/url]

This is for the straight win - either the staff member you spoke to does not know what they're talking about, or it is a v dodgy bookie.Wales wrote:Evens!!

I had seen better odds online, however, dont have an account and didnt have me (visa) cards in work with me. Thought i'd pop down to corbetts (north west ) bookmakers. Asked for odds on klitchko to win and aftera phone call was told evens. Walked out thinking sod that, got in the car but thought i may aswel take it so did. Went back today and they refused to pay out, phoned their head office and was told thats consistent with all bookmakers. To win is to KO and that an evens bet would be far too good odds for just a win....
will contact the aforementioned governing body

Definitely for the straight win.Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:Then you are due back £80. End of story. Indeed, get in touch with their regulatory body if they are denying you this.Wales wrote:Evens!! - most online ones had 12/10 or 13/10 etc...

I think these characters need exposing. It is out and out Fraud really. Go to the regulatory body and say you will contact the local papers if you don't recieve satisfacttion.Wales wrote:I had seen better odds online, however, dont have an account and didnt have me (visa) cards in work with me. Ive been to IBAS and am in the process of completing a betting arbitration form. Hopefuly they'll resolve the matter. The guy on the phone was basically saying it sounds like the bookies are wrong. They can however have their own rules on bets, if thats the case and I get naff all local press will be next port of call.

Bullshit that is. Had a similar thing when I bet that Kevin Keegan would be the next England Manager and when he only took the job, initially on a one match trial, they wouldn't pay me out. The regulatory body intervened and I got my cash. "The next Manager is the next man to pick the team" they said so I fucked Ladbrokes.
Also, they tried to fornicate me when I used the wording 'retain' rather than win in a title fight. The fight was draw and they tried to stiff me again. 'Retain' covered me for the draw and guess what - fucked them again and got paid. out....2-0 to me!!

Sounds like they didn't know what retained meant.boxingchat wrote:Bullshit that is. I remember reading about a fella who put a bet on for Audley Harrison to become a world champion by 2005, so when Audley won the WBF title beating Richel Hersisia, the fella went down to his bookies to collect his winnings. The bookies argued that Audley wasn't a genuine world champion, but the fella went higher with his argument and the bookies where forced to pay out.
