Re: Bellew-Warren: Technical Draw after appeals stage?
Having just read that link, I thought his main complaint was that he wasn't being paid? I'd say Bomber won on points if I'm honest, I think he gets more out of the split than Warren does. He's getting regular fights, is working towards a title shot and is paid on time. That's enough for me to award a points win! lol

No, not a technical draw at all. A big win for Bellew.Vaudeville Villain wrote:Tony walks away with his managerial en(title)ment, but we've got a FWP response waiting to go live that gives their side of the story, which is will be ongoing:

I'll post the other article later, or just check 'Scene regularly as there's a Kenny Anderson one waiting to go through an' all, only I had to bump it to get this stuff up.
Omce both articles are up, and given the links I've put in the first one, yous can make up your own minds rather than just going with the usual moral outrage angle.
Black and white or shades of grey?
As far as I'm concerned there is no 'other side to the story'. The story is that FW was found to be in clear breach of his duties as Bellew's manager, both initially and after appeal, and Bellew was well within his rights to walk away.
That's it.

How was FW actually in breach? Non payment, not getting him the Clev rematch??

Re: Bellew-Warren: Technical Draw after appeals stage?
'They' relinquished Bellew's commonwealth title on behalf of Bellew to make Evans vs Ovil a title fight, Bellew didn't have to give it up he could have defended it. So lost his commonwealth title, lost against cleverley and never got the rematch he wanted, was promised.Coco wrote:How was FW actually in breach? Non payment, not getting him the Clev rematch??
Re: Bellew-Warren: Technical Draw after appeals stage?
so FW falls on his sword for an oversight/mistake by an employee? lets hope this catches on in other circles/professions.Vaudeville Villain wrote:Someone who worked for him in a different capacity relinquished the CW belt after mistakenly informing the fight it was part of CW rules to do this ahead of a title fight, so FW ruled to have been in breach of his managerial duties as a knock on effect of this process as he could not argue that he was protecting his charge's interests in that matter for obvious reasons.Coco wrote:How was FW actually in breach? Here's Warren's reply:-

Seems they still think they promote him. Maybe the issue isn't finished at all.

I do actually.
I find it intriguing and will follow the issue of the Promotional Contract with a lot of interest.
Brings back memories does this !

Myopic? The 'other side' has been looked at, twice, by QCs. That's what I mean. And how do you know Bellew was informed 'mistakenly'? What you can be sure of is that he was informed 'wrongly'.Vaudeville Villain wrote:There's always another side to these things. I put out the bare facts last night, and they support Tony's decision to walk away RE the Commonwealth belt, but to not try and at least look at things from the other side of a given situation is myopic.dondada wrote:No, not a technical draw at all. I would say Haye-Chisora was the best attended show this year and Burns-Michell was not to bad either. DeGale-Groves was probably the biggest crowd last year...prjm80 wrote:Frank warrens days of no 1 uk promoter are well and truly over! Apart from cleverley what other boxer of his fills arenas?
Re: Bellew-Warren: Technical Draw after appeals stage?
Again this whole case raises the issue of fighters having a single manager and promoter. I see this as a direct conflict of interest, as the two roles have directly confrontational responsibilities. A manager is appointed to ensure that they get the best deal for their fighter, and no-one else. You sign with a promoter so that he can use you to maximise his earnings on shows he puts on. He is interested in maximising your earnings, only in that in the course of doing so he maximises his own earnings.
The case of Bellew v Warren (the Manager) and Bellew v Warren (the Promoter) to me appears to be a glaring example. Promoter Warren needs to maximise his earnings so he puts on a show with a Commonwealth title on the line, ultimately at the expense of Bellew (as ruled by the Board). Now if Bellew was represented by a Manager who wasn't his promoter, would not that manager have been able to step in and say "hold on a minute, sacrificing the belt is not needed and not in your best interests" and therefore Warren (the Promoter) would have been left without a title for his fight? If i've misunderstood the relationship of fighter, manager and promoter, forgive me, but it has always struck me as odd.

I agree with you, however both parties were happy with the contract(s) at the start - it is only when things go wrong that people bring these things up.

Really?! FW has some great talent in his stable from top to bottom. I still believe he is the only UK promoter that could make you a world champion before any other out there in the shortest possible time.

And to think this is the simpler of the two issues.
Next we have the Promotion Contract.
