Hennessy: Froch will be a revelation.

Following his interview on BBC Radio Five Live late last week, promoter Mick Hennessy reiterated his belief in the future glory that will shroud undefeated British and Commonwealth champion, Carl Froch.

“I stand by everything I said, and more.” Hennessy started. “Carl is an untapped revelation for British sport. He has the ability to transcend boxing and become one of the biggest sporting talents this country has ever produced.”

He continued: “Inside the ring he has a quality that very few fighters hold. Carl has a unique style, a big fighting heart, a granite chin, lightning reflexes and dynamite in both fists.

“Carl is nailed-on to win genuine World titles and sweep up the division- that’s guaranteed.

“Outside the ring, he is the consummate athlete and a great role model for his fellow professionals and young kids.

“In terms of dedication, conduct and enthusiasm- he has got what it takes to go to the top.”

Recently, however, Carl’s swift path to the top has slowed following surgery on his right hand- an injury sustained against Henry Porras in April.

Hennessy said: “For me, Carl’s conduct concerning his injury exemplifies his World championship destiny. In his last two fights, against Porras and Barney, despite carrying an injury on his power hand, he still oozed class.

Carl’s fights against Porras and Barney will be screened on the 27th September and the 4th October, respectively, on British Eurosport at 7pm.

“Porras is a World gatekeeper of the division and was a big step up in class for Carl. But even with an injury, Carl forced a stoppage.

“Then he took on Matthew Barney, a proven operator on the European scene following his contentious loss against Tomas Ulrich, and still with only one hand, dismantled him.

“Carl always looks for any opportunity to take the opposition out and even late on he tried to take Barney out of the game.

“In my mind, it is this mentality that makes Carl popular with fight fans. People like to watch fighters who are hungry to entertain and prove they are the best.”

Certainly box office records at Carl’s home fights support Hennessy’s claims

“After just sixteen fights Carl is one of the biggest draws in British boxing. His last show saw him defend his British and Commonwealth titles in front of approximately 5,000 home city fans.

“That’s a fantastic achievement at this stage of his career and one that can only grow as Carl fights his way to the top of the tree.”

“As I recall, it wasn’t until Hatton’s 23rd fight, and Hamed’s 19th, that they were headlining shows at big arenas. Carl has been doing it since his 12th fight and the crowds keep getting bigger and bigger.

With Carl recuperating from surgery, Hennessy outlined his forthcoming plans for his prodigious charge.

Hennessy said: “Carl will be fighting in early December and we are looking at some very interesting proposals.

“We’re not looking for a warm up fight. We are looking for a real test. As it should be.

“I believe, following his return, Carl will be ready to make the next step onto the World stage and that includes Joe Calzaghe.

“Make no mistake about it - Carl is ready to dethrone Calzaghe in style.

Hennessy went on to explain the simplicity of making the fight: “So long as his team don’t request options and other ridiculous deal breakers I really don’t see why this fight can’t happen.

“It is by far the biggest all-British fight on the table in recent years and one that would interest all of the broadcasters.

“You have two come-forward boxers who have traded insults in the media and I think that people would like to see them trade punches in the ring. I know that’s what Carl wants.

“Given the right promotion, I believe a Froch-Calzaghe showdown has the broad appeal that would bring boxing back to the forefront of the British viewing public.

The renewed interest from broadcasters is a welcome sight for Hennessy.

“The more channels that get involved means the more exposure boxing gets. And that’s great news for the sport.

“We’ve just done a deal with British Eurosport to show some action from previous Hennessy Sports shows and over the next few weeks British fight fans will have the opportunity to see unseen fight footage of Carl Froch, Lee Meager and many more.”

“Tomorrow, people will get to see how a hungry boxer should perform with an injury. It is one of Carl’s best fights to date and makes for great television.” Hennessy concluded.

The forthcoming British Eurosport schedule concerning Hennessy Sports boxers is as follows:

Carl Froch vs. Henry Porras
The first UK screening of The Cobra’s US debut under the Golden Boy Promotions banner.

4th October 2005 7pm
Carl Froch vs. Matthew Barney
Carl defends his British and Commonwealth titles against the ever-elusive Matthew Barney.

11th October 2005 11pm
Lee Meager vs. Martin Watson
Ten rounds of all-action boxing as domestic rivals Meager and Watson zone in on professional honours.

What happened to your belief in loyalty?.
At least Froch has had some exposure in the States..... he would have gone further this year but for his hand injury. I admire Froch for staying loyal to Henessey and it may pay off for him in the long run.....

Boxingchat only agrees in loyalty to Sports Network all the other promoters can stuff it. When he's not picking peanuts out of Warren's poo he comes on here to have a go at the opposition, very professional!

I've seen the Froch VS Porras fight its a very good fight IMO and is recommended viewing (at 7 O'clock on Eurosport tomorrow).

Its good to see that Carl is gonna be back in action in December and surely Mick will get TV dates on Sky if he can get the right fights for Carl (and Junior)

Lets hope for a well ranked opponent in December then Carl can start looking at title shots IMO, Calzaghe will get his boots smoked when the time arises

Hi de hi chambers, I'll have no complaints with Froch facing a high quality international opponent, but I'd love to see Carl win the Londsdale belt out right (and set an example to his fellow pro's) so another successful defence of the British title would leave Froch with one more to go before it's his for keeps.

Tony Dodson's back in the picture, but judging from his latest win he requries several contests to get his form back.

The fight was NOT shown on USTV. It is a smoke screen. He was just an undercard fill in.

Having fought in America will still stand him in good stead for the future and will have got him noticed you can't deny that.

calzaghe would destroy froch.

froch is too open for a quicker puncher like calzaghe.

u think audley harrison would win the world heavyweight title, so why am i even taking the time to respond.

I just cant see Froch beating Calzaghe right now. I know everyone slates the level of opposition that Calzaghe has fought, but it is still miles higher than Froch. I would like to see Lacy fight Froch as a warm up for the February (fingers crossed) fight with Calzaghe, but that wont happen as I think Lacy punches too hard for Froch's hands down style, and he cant fight 3 brits in a row.

Interesting that Hennesey claims that Froch Calzaghe is the biggest British fight out there, I would say Hatton v Witter is top and then Woods Calzaghe.

Have Hennessy really done that great a job with Froch

How close is he to a world title shot in all reallity? and this at an advanced age for a contender.

Why does he keep using Calzaghe`s name when there are other title holders out there..alot think Lacy could beat Calzaghe but everybody and their dog would agree that Lacy would wipe the floor with Froch..within a round or two also:TU:

Much like Audley Harrison, Froch now realizes time is not on his side and is looking for a quick route...Audley could easilly win a world title...does that really say much when all the others are piss-poor...what makes the difference is how many times he can defend it and against whom.

Carl Froch just doesn`t do it for me, he is doing it the old fashion way of going through the British title etc but also the very old fashion way of hyping himself...Naz was the last fighter who squeezed the last out of the Ali routine of boasting...now its just boring and embarrasing...even Calzaghe gave this up many years ago.

I think Froch could beat Calzaghe but I doubt that Calzaghe will ever get in the same ring as Carl.

I would like to see froch fight Vitali Tsypko for the European title he is ranked 7 so it couldn't be that hard. I don't know if Maggee recognises himself a british or not but if he dose they could have a title match up and that would put one of them in with a shot at what is a worth wile title.

Yes, seems like Hennesey has come to some agreement with Eurosport. They showed this followed by Walker vs Clarke (not televised on the Froch vs Barney bill).

There was an intro to it saying its the "start" of a new series showcasing the some of the best fighters in the UK. The intro to Froch sounded like a Hennessey press release.

I wonder if Hennessey will have some live boxing on there in future.

Disagree. one shot and done? He's the opposite - can really pile the pressure on with onslaughts of accurate powerful combinations. Did u watch the Porras fight? Great example.

Yeah I saw the Porras fight. I thought he did alot of pot shotting with the occasional burst. Followed by walking around the ring.

I like Froch but until he keeps his hands up and doesn't rely on his decent-but-not-spectacular reflexes to avoid punches, he's not destined for longevity.

Does look good in attack, though.
