We all know about Boxers, Punchers and Swarmers…
Then we have classic Boxer-Punchers like Joe Louis
Swarmer-Punchers like Jack Dempsey or Mike Tyson
Anyone care to name a Boxer-Swarmer? I’m not sure? Harry Greb (just teasing, Buzz)? Pernell Whittaker?
I don’t know.
For the pedants, no exact science here.

A boxer swarmer?
Calzaghe
Meldrick Taylor
Khan - Is a decent boxer but some mistake the fact that he swarm his opponents with speed for actual skill.
To some extent, Pacquiao when fighting guys like Margarito
An example of a Boxer/Swarmer/Puncher? It's hard to find many instances where one does all three at the same time all the time so I listed those who could do all three and normally do two out of three in every fight.

There doesn't seem to be that many guys who fit the bill as boxer-swarmer. Perhaps there was a while back. To some extent, guys in the 1930 such as Canzoneri, McLarnin, and Ross were like that. They could box at long range or mix it up on the inside in the same fight.

Re: Boxer/Swarmer/Puncher
Ross was much more of a classic boxer though, almost always let his opponent try to apply the pressure. McClarnin though could be described as a "boxers-swarmer."Ambling Alp wrote:There doesn't seem to be that many guys who fit the bill as boxer-swarmer. Perhaps there was a while back. What about Pryor? Certainly boxed some in Arguello I.
