Re: Who else knocked people out like David Price does?

Did someone just compare David Price to Julian Jackson? Please rell me it's some kind of sick joke.
Re: Who else knocked people out like David Price does?

I have just looked at both boxers records and it is very interesting reading :jimcook wrote:frank bruno might be a fair comparison
Price : now aged 29, been a pro for 3.5 years after winning an Olympic medal. Has won all 14 fights (12 inside the distance) against not great opposition.
Bruno : turned pro at 18 (I think) after winning thwe ABA's (although there was a delay due to an eye problem - didn't make his pro debut until he was 21).
By the time he had been a pro for 3.5 years he had 27 fights, winning 26 (25 inside the distance) - his only loss to Bonecrusher Smith. He had just beaten Anders Eklund for the European title and 3 fights later boxed Tim Witherspoon for the World title.
Just shows you how times have changed.
In my opinion, no it wouldn't be fair to compare Price with Bruno.
Re: Who else knocked people out like David Price does?
No. Someone asked about fighters who seemed to put guys 'to sleep' when they KO'd them. Jackson fits that bill perfectly. Nobody mentioned anything about levels of opposition.keithmoonhangover wrote:Did someone just compare David Price to Julian Jackson? Please rell me it's some kind of sick joke.

Price actually has very little hype in relation to his achievements. Sounds like someone has an agendadaviddee wrote:Mike Tyson was the most explosive fighter ever. obviously bruno had more fights, but lets face it, if there was more money about today , price could easily be knocking out 8 or 9 no hopers every year. the comparison was about ko ing . to me they are both not fluid or natural boxers, but can ko almost anyone who is not top class. but then again the heavyweight division these days hardly contains a population blessed with boxing talent. dont forget bruno was stiff and predictable , but he was very fit , very strong , and could punch incredibly hard. i see price as similar ...has excellent physical attributes, punches hard, but , hes not exactly the sugar ray leonard of the heavyweights.

That is, word for word, what I would have written. We can also add that Price has durability issues that cannot be trained out and we don't know (yet) how his stamina is over the hard rounds. He is looking good now but when he steps up, he is going to be found wanting - just my hunch.jimcook wrote:bripez wrote:I have just looked at both boxers records and it is very interesting reading :jimcook wrote:frank bruno might be a fair comparison

Is not the money is all about TV dates there are a lot less out there today so is very hard to keep fighters fighting like the days of Bruno and Lennox Lewis.

Re: Who else knocked people out like David Price does?
Promoters billing Mickey Mouse titles with hatton & calzaghe beating bums have inflicted damage as the appreciation has gone & the fact we don't get to see oversea big fights leaves the public & some fanatics with no real understanding on who is actually real world class

Re: Who else knocked people out like David Price does?
Surely it is better for fighters in the early stages of their careers to be kept active though even if the money they receive for each fight is not great. Look at Saul Alvarez, he has had about 40 fights already and he's only 21. I appreciate he started at age 15 but he's now reaping the rewards of getting so much experience early on in his career.
Promotors obviously know more than me in terms of the numbers etc, but with the advent of allegedly surely Price and other up and coming fighters could be fighting every 6 to 8 weeks rather than 3 or 4 times a year (injury permitting of course). Even if some of the fights are against opposition which may not be top class they'd still be getting experience as well as earning some money.
The problem nowadays is that some fighters expect to be fighting in big arenas and earning big money before they have proved themselves. i.e. trying to run before they can walk and that is why a lot of them don't fulfil their potential.

I'm pretty amazed there hasn't been some sort of fairly regular Thursday night "Fight School" type thing where the FW prospects (and FM) get a regular run out. As a young, learning fighter you could be considered busy if you fight 3 times a year these daysDarcy Delaney wrote:but surley with Allegedly Channel a boxing only channel you could have boxing screened every night of the weekFtmPress wrote:Just shows you how times have changed.

If you look at some old highlight vids of him at cruiserweight you'll see him proper putting people to sleep.Ratchet Exits Nu wrote:HAYE?Manchester Massive wrote:Cooney, Bruno, Haye all despatched opponents at that level in a similar fashion

His hands aren't as heavy with the big fellas but he still puts them over and stops them.

Haye can really punch! Look how he bashed & finished off chisora ,who has a great chin.
Who has ever rattled valuev?
Even flooring a washed up Ruiz showed his lightning speed.

Re: Who else knocked people out like David Price does?
Tyson's first 14 fights were against novices (Tyson was much younger though in fairness). I agree, if he was put in with the likes of Holyfield & Lewis in their prime he would get beat just as Iron Mike did.daviddee wrote:Mike Tyson was the most explosive fighter ever. The problem with Tyson was when someone hit him back he didn't like it, see Buster Douglas for that...

Valuev has also been rattled by John Ruiz, J.F. Beregeron, and Gerald Nobles.hurlock wrote:Haye can really punch! Look how he bashed & finished off chisora ,who has a great chin.

Haye has to be up there as a P4P puncher he has only failed to stop Valuev, every other win has been by stoppage.
