Why do Boxing experts rate Tyson Fury BUT fans don't?

DOn't forget that Tyson Fury is a totally different physical specimen now than 6 months ago. He looks like a real pro now in terms of his physical shape, the man even has a bona fide six pack. His Uncle Peter has made a huge difference to Tyson! Also, although we can only judge him on his past, remember that Fury won his first 17 fights hardly ever training (and when he did, it was in an old shed with rusty weights), going down the pub, and eating takeaways. Fury is a completely natural talent who has won almost all his fights without really being a pro boxer in the way Price would approach boxing. Now Tyson is physically up to the same standards as his natural talent, I think he's made up that final distance to a credible, world class, heavyweight.

DOn't think I'm a PRice knocker, because I like Price too, I just think Fury has more skills, more heart, and is a real world class talent. Price is a great finisher, but if his most serious test so far is going to be Matt Skelton, I just don't think he's been tested enough yet. PLus, I also don't think he's the finished article.

ps I think I'm right in saying Fury shouldn't have lost their amateur fight (the one where he knocked Price on his backside)? Politics, as ever, I think, played a part.

I edited it a few seconds after posting. I was confusing Dundee's endorsement of Haye with Fury.

Replaced with Eddie Chambers, who is a big Fury fan.

My overall point stands though.

And as someone mentioned earlier in the thread, I think the experts rate Fury because of his jab - when he is focussed it is immense and in my opinion [whisper it quietly] better even than Lennox's

Look how many 'experts' picked Holyfield to beat Tyson. In a poll almost as long as the London phonebook, just one guy picked Holy'. An "ex" is a has been and a "spurt" is a drip under pressure.

But the majority of fans also agreed that Tyson would smash Holyfield. It was a sensible prediction at the time and if Holyfield winning invalidates the experts, then it invalidated just about everybody.

The point of this post is why the experts and the fans seem to be on different pages when it comes to Fury.

For my part, I'd say obviously Price looks the better talent, but Fury has fought the better opponents and answered more questions. He's been 12 rounds, been in hard fights, got off the floor to win, etc.

Well he proved beyond doubt that he didn't know his stuff, then, didn't he? I mean, it's not like anyone else ever got a fight prediction wrong.

Price is a tidy, organised fighter with a good defense and a dynamite punch. Fury is never in shape, fights with his hands low, and had been put on queer street by a tomato can. At this point in their careers, Fury has to land a lucky shot to have any chance. And I picked Holyfield against Tyson :-)
