Well it's a bit of a shock for boxing. I was more hoping he wasn't dead but seeing as Towers confirmed it...

Unless you read the thread...
Jonathan Banks and Towers have confirmed. Seeing as they're trying with big Wlad, I'ld assume he is dead

I'm not picking at you specifically, mate, it's a general bugbear of mine that a lot of people seem to have a penchant for going off half-cocked just to try and prove they are in the know.
I think it's a twitter thing; there's so much information going around every second; we used to wait for the Boxing News letters page for peoples views; that seems a lifetime ago.

It's a dickhead thing. In the military there is a protocol called 'Op Minimise' that is enforced whenever certain types incidents occur e.g. a patrol is attacked an there have been serious injuries and/or fatalities. When 'Op Minimise is on,pretty much everybody is banned from using telephones, computers etc.. to contact friends, family, journalists, the bloke in Spud's corner shop, etc back home. The reason is twofold i. it helps prevent misinformation from being disseminated and ii. it enables those who need to know the information to be informed before every Tom, Dick or Harry down the pub.

If Manny has passed, perhaps his family want to ensure that all those who they feel need to know are informed before those who just want to know. I agree that this is difficult thing to accomplish in this day and age.
I totally agree. Read that a mum read her daughter died from facebook once it's horrible. But once something goes viral it's game over

I once sent my regards to a friend after seeing the news that one of their best friends had died on Facebook

They didn't have a clue what I was talking about. Ended up being the one to break the news to them, not nice, just assumed as it was on Facebook everyone important must have already been told

Won't make that mistake again

Pretty sh*t that all these famous people are just echoing what could be, completely false information.

The guy could be fighting for life still, yet people are throwing sand on his coffin.

These matters should speculated, but never announced until its official in my opinion. Already boxing websites are launching RIP manny because they saw Jonathan banks, who is thousands of miles away and in a completely different time zone announcing it to everyone he is dead . Whilst his sister is saying the exact opposite.

Courtesy of Current Scene:

From Wlad today:

Wladimir's statement to the passing away of Emanuel Steward:

Boxing has suffered a tremendous loss with the passing of Emanuel Steward.

Vitali and I, along with the entire Team Klitschko, send our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to Emanuel's family and friends.

It is not often that a person in any line of work gets a chance to work with a legend, well I was privileged enough to work with one for almost a decade.

I will miss our time together. The long talks about boxing, the world, and life itself. Most of all I will miss our friendship.

My team and I will carry on with the goals we had set while Emanuel was with us because that is exactly what Emanuel would have wanted. I know he will be with us in spirit along the way and we will accomplish these goals in his honor.

Rest in peace Emanuel. You will be greatly missed.

Until we meet again my friend.

According to a poster on the current scence, Wladimir Klitchsko has made an statement regarding the passing of Steward. It sounds more official than a twitter message.

Having said that, I cannot a website that contains this message (including the Klitchsko home page).

Edit - Apparently they placed on Facebook but have since deleted it.

Unfortunately, I suspect he has passed on but I think the Klitchsko's backtracked from the statement as they are awaiting people of being informed.

I know he is seriously ill but until I hear from a reputable source I am not going to believe it because it is only fair.

Notice how that is not sourced?

We've got the Twitter circular, Wikipedia, and an unsourced statement purportedly from Wladimir Klitschko....
Appararently this was from the Klitchsko's facebook page and been deleted.

Once the genie is out of the lamp there's no getting it back in. There's been no disrespect to the man, people are responding to 'news'; it wouldn't help if people pretended to have not heard anything and waited for a 'formal announcement' to give their regards.

What about that. Posted half hour ago.

Klitschko retracted their statement. Hopefully, Manny comes out and reads it out and laughs.
