allegedly Commentary
It's ok when Bunce and Lillis are shouting at each other in the studio, like an insane tweedle dum and tweedle dee, because you can just mute them or fast forward, but it's hard when the fights actually start, and you have to listen to Barry Jones say "Yes John, I agree, that was a good shot by Garcia that John, he's definitely fancying this John....in fact John, I think he might even win this...John ? "
Last night, he must have literally said John over 3000 times - it's enough to drive you insane - does no one else notice ?
Now I know the John Rawling has turned into the new Alan Partridge, and his pompous and condescending manner make his fellow commentators very uncomfortable ( you can tell Paul Smith really doesn't like him, but covers it up well to keep the job ) but Barry really needs to stop being so subservient to Rawling. He's actually boxed, unlike his patronising fellow commentator.

Re: allegedly Commentary
It's fuckin awful why can't they just use the American commentary that will be broadcast over there on showtime?
Re: allegedly Commentary
They normally do. Dont know why they didnt last night.
Re: allegedly Commentary
The worst of it is is they actually think there providing a better service giving us British commentary, but on the plus side least its not Benny who Primetime use
Re: allegedly Commentary
I would much rather listen to the American commentary as well. I think Rawling is a bit of a dinosaur, would much rather hear current people talking about boxing than an old man talking about:
- The people in the 'bleachers' fighting
- Old boxers from the 1930s
- How 'this fight would have been different if it was the old 15 round format'
I do have some respect for Rawling, he's been there a long time and deserves respect for that, but for me, it's painful to listen to and he needs to hand over the baton to some new people.

Re: allegedly Commentary
Worst commentary by far.
Cant believe after 2 knockdowns and a pummelling that Rawling says "Is that a 10-8 round do you think?"
For someone so experiences he doesn't even know the rules most of the time.
I actually cancelled my subs cause I couldn't stand the ranting and raving of Bunce and the long pauses between words whilst he either read his autocue or over thought his choice of wording. I have since re-subscribed as I liked the look of the Price bill and thought last nights American card looked good (Thought 2 of the fights were worth the subs this month alone) but not sure how long I can cope with Bunce and Rawling. Yes I hear you say turn the volume down if you dont like it but its not the same is it.

Did you cancel your subs today after the Kid chocolate, Garcia fight? Don't you want to see Cotto/Trout, Broner, Groves/Johnson, Guerro/Berto etc.?If you like boxing their schedule pisses in the face of Sky etc.maninthemiddle wrote:Worst commentary by far.

Why not just turn the sound down? That's what I do.
Btw Rawlng asking is that a 10-8 after two KD's and two slips bemused me.
Re: allegedly Commentary
The channel is great for overseas fights. Where would we see them now on UKTV if not for the channel.
I take all commentators with pinch salt these days.

On an entirely unrelated note, I haven't seen carrotcruncher on here for a while.

Re: allegedly Commentary
I know, there's a lot of excellent boxing types they could find, like they would routinely do in the US ( or any other sport in the UK ) to present the channel. Instead we get two fat chancers who would clear a bar inside 30 seconds.maninthemiddle wrote: not sure how long I can cope with Bunce and Rawling. And yes, I do miss John Rawling's sock puppet on here, carrotcruncher.
Re: allegedly Commentary
Rawlings is rubbish.
He is serious when he asks "Was that a 10-8 round?" as he has no idea what he is looking at.

Please bear in mind that I have not watched the fight in question yet, but from other posts I get the impression there were two knockdowns in it? If that's the case Fighter A might have been awarded a 10-7 round. If Fighter B had fought back well since the knockdown, however, the possibility exists that the round could have been scored 10-8. Could that scenario be relative to this round? It isn't just a matter of 'Fighter A scored two knockdowns, it has to be a 10-8'
Re: allegedly Commentary
This is the best way, most commentators are shit these days across all sports, some of you guys want to thank you're lucky stars you're not motorbike racing fans, there's a commentator for that call Jonathan Green and he's the most irritating commentator of all time, sometimes I want to force feed him his testicles and wash them down with bleach, twat!leforge wrote:I take all commentators with pinch salt these days.
I was watching Paul Hodkinson v Guy Bellehigue the other day and the lone commentator just spoke every so often, giving little insights as to what he's seeing, none of this growling, cliched, matey babble that you get these days.
Adam Smith is the most hilarious for that "He's had a tough life, had to fight just to survive and now here he is trying to achieve his dream..." Adam, he's from Manchester not fornicating North Korea you pillock and you told us this in rounds 1, 3 and 5.
Darke was another one like that.
Still, could be worse... "There you go. Four-punch, five-punch, six-punch combination. Body shot, body shot, bang, bang, bang. Bang! Bang! Bang! Try and stop it! Bang! Bang! Here I come. Bang! You want to throw some time? Bang! This is the Manny Pacquiao who has dominated boxing for the past three years. Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! You want to throw back? Bang!"
I nearly died laughing when he did that.

No Glyn N'dam was all at sea and Chocolate was very close to getting him out of there. The looks my wife gave me when we were watching that and ol'Lampley got excited will never leave me "Who is this moron?" That was during the Clottey fight, wasn't it? I think he was going overboard to mask over the fact it wasn't a fight more of a study in how to hide behind your gloves for twelve roundsCounter-puncher wrote:indeed, say what we like about Brit commentators, none of our lot has ever sunk so low.banjo wrote:

Jim Lampley might well be the worst ever. He's been ruining fights on HBO since 1988. He has zero self awareness, carries himself like a massive prima donna, loves the sound of his own voice and literally cannot shut up, or use one word if 10 or 20 will do.
Re: allegedly Commentary
Barry Jones, yes, 100%.benji12345 wrote:they are all rubish on Allegedly channel barry jones paul smith aspecialy
Paul Smith, I disagree. Not a big fan of his but feel he generally calls a fight (and speaks) well.
Re: allegedly Commentary
I don't have a problem with Barry Jones, Paul Smith or Enzo Maccarinelli personally... more of these and less of Bunce IMO.
