After Skelton, what next for Price
After Skelton, what next for Price
Assuming, Price beats Skelton which I think he'll do pretty hadily as he's real quality, what does everyone think his next few fights should look like.
I guess he wants to win the British title outright, ether of the two obvious contenders for that (Chisora if allowed to fight or Fury if TV issues can be sorted) if not them then I don't think Towers would be in any way appropriate because Price would hammer him.
Then I'd like to see him take on at least one european level fight, ideally Pulev but he probably won't want the fight unless it's mandated, otherwise someone who needs a good win to reestablish their reputations - Helenius, Jean Marc Mormeck, or Manuel Char all fall into this mold.
Thoughts.

Re: After Skelton, what next for Price
it wont be fury anyway as he is going to wbc route towards a title which could be a great idea for him if vitali vacates,
chisora would be a great option and the only other one is dillian whyte if he wants a fight to keep his lionsdale belt
then take a step up the european ladder

Re: After Skelton, what next for Price
Problem with Chisora although I'd love to see the fight, he has lost four out of his last five although one was a robbery and probably won't be sanctioned by the BBBoC for another six months due to their fit of pique over the Haye boxing match, I think it'd be a good fight but Warren may want to build him up against a couple of punch bags before he puts him in a competitive fight and by that time Price will have moved beyond him.mullenman wrote:it wont be fury anyway as he is going to wbc route towards a title which could be a great idea for him if vitali vacates,

Dillian Whyte is a good call, particularly as he's taking a step up in class on the under-card of that fight, also taking another unbeaten (ceteris paribus) young hungry upcoming fighter would contrast well with the couple of old timers he will have just beat.
Re: After Skelton, what next for Price
The title of this thread is depressing. But completely sums up the non-event that this fight will be.

KO Wilder, Chisora, Fury and Towers!
That will put him head over heels in front of the pack!

Noone will want to fight him. NOONE!
Unfortunately Price will be treading water for a long time, unless Wlad agrees to fight him.
I think if he is offered a fight with Wlad he needs to take it because he won't be in any 'learning' fights in the meantime. The best learning fights he can ask for are against tough trial horses who can give him rounds. The only problem is those guys will know he can crack and will want silly money.

If I were him I wouldn't spend that long on the domestic scene, take out Fury, Wytte or Chisora then move up.danconnollyeire wrote:KO Wilder, Chisora, Fury and Towers!

I take your point, he could do with being mandated for the European fights, the one advantage of the British scene is the fights are easier to make. In my opinion he's about four fights away from going into a fight with Wlad, it's weather he can get them against the right people. Those who believe in themselves are a good place to start, that's why I thought Manuel Char would be a good call, performed well vs Klitschko and clearly has bags of self confidence and needs a good win to get back into contention.Riddick Blowe wrote:Noone will want to fight him. Until I've seen more of Pricey against other 'contenders', I don't think he'll beat Wlad. I think his best chance would be to dethrone the other Klit.Riddick Blowe wrote:Noone will want to fight him. NOONE!

I never really rated Wlad and thought Haye would KO him. The fight was a stinker with a cautious approach from both boxers so we didn't get to see many punches thrown. What the fight did show me though was that Wlad had excellent footwork for a big man. Granted Haye didn't throw much, but when he did he barely got near the big man. I know Haye seemed to hurt Wlad late on and I know Price probably hits at least as hard as Haye, but I don't think Price has anywhere near the speed of Haye and may struggle to land (or at least before Wlad lands).
He's not ready for the younger brother just yet, though I think a scrap with Vitali would be 50/50. He's looking slow and one dimensional these days, and though he's got a good chin, I fancy Price to hurt him.

What? Fury v Price is going to fill Old Trafford? Off the back of a barely coherent rant by Fury in front of about a million people on Five?josh fg wrote:Fury v Price at Old Trafford would be the biggest domestic heavyweight fight since Lewis Bruno leaving the winner with massive national support to take on the rest of Europe then the world.
It wouldn't even be as big as Harrison v Williams 1 at the moment
Price needs to push on. The only thing that defends this match up is how soon after Harrison it is happening and the fact that everyone seems to be getting an easy touch this winter. Somebody capable of taking him towards the end of a fight will be a start.
Although thinking about it, the amount of contenders around today even compared with 5 years ago is absolutely miserable.
Would love to see the Arreola fight next year at some point, he is ready for that?
Re: After Skelton, what next for Price
He sold out the eco pretty quick for the Harrison fight and Fury has sold out the MEN, Maloney is a good salesman I recon between them they could build it up enough, Liverpool Manchester northwest grudge match winner takes the glory looser goes home with nout, they could shift serious numbers...Lenny wrote:What? Price is the first up and coming British fighter I've been this excited by since Froch and Haye turned pro, and a KO against Harrison will have shifted him into national consciousness plus he has loyal home fans a la Hatton. Possibly putting Bellew on the under card and a couple of popular Manchester fighters.

Harrison is the pantomime villan. Sure Fury looks like he might take this route but he is nowhere near as well known as Audley - he was the star in that fight. The fact that he has decided not to retire seems to have gotten more column inches than Price v Skelton
I can imagine Fury working his arse off to sell the fight and even then, the very best they could hope for is the MEN (no shame in that).

Before he steps in with someone like Arreola he needs to fight someone who will actually make him think and give rounds, Dominic Guinn for example.Lenny wrote:

Why can't Price get on a major US undercard? I'm sure promoters stateside would welcome the chance of having a big punching, exciting heavyweight prospect on their bill.

Re: After Skelton, what next for Price
As poor as Towers may be compared to Price, he is rated something like 4th or 5th by the EBU. So beating him by KO would without doubt put Price in the mandatory spot for a European title shot. Obviously I am only proposing this if a fight with Fury or Chisora can not be made.

The biggest problem is who will fight him?? Ideally Helenius would fit the bill or Pulev is another. Price needs to up the ante and fight genuine contenders, as he posses the power to stop any of them.

You don't THINK he'd beat Wlad but would be 50-50 with Vitali? Wow you scousers are one-eyed with your own. What brother do you think is better? Vitali has looked shite recently. The Price we've seen against the Klit that Chispra fought, wins. There is no way Maloney would risk Price with Dillian Whyte.
If he wins David will end up fighting the winner of Richard Towers Lucas Browne fight, after all it is meant to be a Commonwealth
eliminator fight.
Re: After Skelton, what next for Price
Skelton is very old now & a lot slower out the blocks.i can imagine on current form that price goes straight through the bear!
My concern with price is that he could fall into the trap of just lining people up with big single shots & stops boxing clever to the pedigree he has.at the Olympics he was trouncing people & when he got to camerelle he kind of ran out of ideas when he wasn't on top as he was relying on that power

If Towers beats Browne then I think a fight against him for the British, Commonwealth & EU titles makes sense, since he is ranked highly by the EBU.EBU Rakings wrote:HEAVYWEIGHTS

It could be enough to make Price the next mandatory challenger for the European title and it might be the last defence of the British title he needs to win it outright.
