Kostya Tszyu vs Arturo Gatti
Kostya Tszyu vs Arturo Gatti
This fight was talked about but never happened. Who wins this match up.
I predict Gatti's willingness to trade would be his downfall. Tszyu ko 6.

Gatti would get brutalized for as long as it lasted. He simply wasn't that caliber of fighter.

100%
Gatti was wonderful to watch but against that level of opponent he would not be able to rely on toughness to see the final bell, let alone find a way to win. Stopped in or around the 8th, IMO, and down several times.

Gatti/Phillips would've been good; I'd have favored Cool, though.

Agreed, and Gatti is pretty much my favorite fighter of all time, but I'm aware of his faults, and indeed he wouldn't have been able to compete with Tszyu.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Gatti would get brutalized for as long as it lasted. He simply wasn't that caliber of fighter.

Horrible styles mix for arturro.
Interestingly enough, I think mickey ward would have had a better chance against tszyu, but that's another story.

Anyone else think Tszyu is a little underatted these days?

By whom? He just made the HOF last year in his first year of eligibility, right?thunderfromdownunder wrote:Anyone else think Tszyu is a little underatted these days?

I think he deserves to be more widely remembered, but hey.Rover wrote:By whom? He just made the HOF last year in his first year of eligibility, right?thunderfromdownunder wrote:Anyone else think Tszyu is a little underatted these days?

Tszyu TKO3 for me. He wouldn't have outclassed him quite as comprehensively as Floyd, but Tszyu had dynamite in his right hand and he was very accurate. Gatti could only take so many before the ref or his corner would have to step in.

Gatti's face would be hamburger by round 4. He is made for Kostya who would just measure him for booming right hands round after round.

The two guys that beat Tszyu were tough pressure fighters, ward fits into that category. Not saying he would have, but I think it would be interestingRover wrote:Tszyu would've Gonzalez'd Ward.thunderfromdownunder wrote:Horrible styles mix for arturro.

Re: Kostya Tszyu vs Arturo Gatti
Ward's no Hatton or Phillips. Not even close.

How did territory impact it? It didn't go to the cards, so no hometown decision.BarryWashington wrote:yeah tszyu would run through gatti and easily outclass ward. i still think a younger kostya (on neutral territory) would run through hatton. think that fight was one of those "at the right place, right time" moments

Re: Kostya Tszyu vs Arturo Gatti
The crowd certainly gave Hatton a boost, plus the ref ruled a Tszyu punch low that was on the belt and knocked Hatton down, then didn't deduct points from Hatton after his obvious low blow (although I acknowledge that had the neither of these would have changed the result). I agree that prime-for-prime, Tszyu beats Hatton.Rover wrote:How did territory impact it? Re: Kostya Tszyu vs Arturo Gatti
You stated that you acknowledge neither of those things (and one low blow shouldn't warrant a deduction--though I agree that was a KD--very close call, though) would've changed the outcome.
So Tszyu wouldn't have quit in Vegas?

Tszyu has one loss Hatton never beat him that was a modern day mugging and an insult to boxing

Hatton's holding didn't make Tszyu quit.
