I remember my cousin taping it for me as it was Cable only.

They used to have the kid from Eastenders doing the presenting for the boxing, from memory. He was woeful.

I think John Rawling did some of Wire's early shows, as in introduce and then commentate. I seem to remember him at York Hall, wearing a collar that was too tight, a bit like a 15-year-old schoolboy still wearing his 11-year-old uniform, not a great look - you could tell Sir John was a radio man back then.

As for the station, was very weird. You couldn't pick it up on Sky, you had to have a separate and specific subscription, and it came and went in a flash. One day it was just gone. Love to know what kind of subscription/viewing figures it was getting but I'd bet the house they weren't big enough to cover what they paid out for Lennox!

A lot of good fights were wasted live on Wire TV which must have had about 100 viewers.

You had to wait ages for them to be played on the BBC or Eurosport. How different today when we opt out of silly channels and just watch it live via 'other means'.

Quite a poor signal as I recall - never had it myself but the tapes I got from this time were always awful of Wire shows.

One of my fondest boxing memorys was staying up all night as a kid and watching george foreman make history by knocking out michael moorer live on wire tv.

Was that on Wire TV as well?! Wow, John Rawling must really have sucked the drama out of out that eyeball blowing spectacle.

Jim Neilly did his typically shambolic job on the BBC highlights, then afterwards a cobweb covered Des Lynam demanded Lennox Lewis explain to him what Foreman was doing in there, after Foreman had annexed Double M and taken his belts. Lewis seemed quite confused by Des.

One of my favourite moments in boxing history is after 9 rds Angelo Dundee saying to George, "Come on son, you're behind. You've got to put this man down" and George coldly responds "Alright".

A few early Barry Hearn shows were covered by wire tv, I remember boxing on one in Basildon.

I remember the Don King, not Lynam and Cooper though. Urgh. Lynam seems completely inept. Cooper of all people should've known just because you can't spark someone quickly doesn't mean you can't punch. Maybe the other guy was very durable? Butler certainly had a very hard head. If only he'd had bothered to train.
