Even a 3-0 Taras Bidenko had a 28-0 Valuev falling around the ring out on his feet after the 12th round.

It's no wonder big Nikolay was held back by his team for the entire duration of the 90s, he would of been cannon fodder for anybody in the top 10.

Mike Tyson was the most explosive fighter ever. The way he got rid of fighters was scary. Price has not stopped anyone worth noting. He's fighting in an era where heavyweight boxing is at its lowest ever. If he was to be put in with a few of the top guys he would be stopped. Price is the most over hyped fighter since Frank Bruno

Bruno is and was under-rated, if anything. He would bomb guys out of there who'd go the distance or into the late rounds with pretty much everyone else, but the general public gave him stick for fighting "mismatches" because Bruno would beat them so easily.

For example:
Jesse Ferguson - Bruno did him in a round, while Ferguson went the distance vs Bonecrusher Smith, McCall, Dokes, Tubbs, Holmes, Rahman and Golota, went 6 rounds with a young Tyson, and beat Mercer and Buster Douglas.

Jose Ribalta - Bruno knocked him clean out in 2, while Ribalta went the distance with Bonecrusher, Witherspoon, Coetzer, Dokes, Holmes and Schultz, went 10 rounds with a young Tyson, and beat Leon Spinks.

There are others too, but you get the point.

I agree Oliver - Bruno could bang out guys with solid jaws who gave long hard fights to more fashionable names and still he wouldn't get any credit.

Ferguson is a great example - his mauling at the hands of Bruno is sandwiched by fights with Ray Mercer, both of which he won (although officially only the first one)! Years later as a 40 year old man he could whip Obed Sullivam, go 12 no problem with Hasim Rahman hitting him and come in on a week's notice and go all night with Andrew Golota. Very good result but Bruno could never escape the overwhelming British cynicism.

It's far too myopic and simplistic to look solely at boxing to try and explain away why boxing is no longer getting (many) television dates. Whilst the people within the sport have undoubtedly been sodomising themselves for years, there's a lot more to the sport's decline than that alone.

I wonder why people keep going on about the good old days when there was loads of televised boxing. I first started following boxing in 1990, before satellite TV and well before the internet, and at best there was one dedicated live British boxing show a week on ITV, which ran for one hour rather than the 2 or 3 that they run for now on Sky, a paltry boxing slot (often delayed coverage or highlights only) if you were lucky on BBC Sportsnight or Grandstand, and sometimes an overseas fight or two midweek on ITV which was a week or two old. In the early 90s, you were truly spoiled if you got more than 2 hours of boxing in a week, and that was extremely rare. Probably 99% of the boxing results and news, I got from Ceefax or the fights mags.

Of course, the viewing figures were that much higher, but the idea of there being many more TV dates in an era when there were only 4 TV channels is a fallacy.

the quality mustve been better then. obviously you get ten hour shows nowadays but the headline fight is cleverly versus some bum, and the undercard is tba vs fuckk knows who, times 9.
i watched great fights on the 3 channels we had then...hearns vduran , ray leonard vs hagler , hagler vs everybody,herol graham fights, chavez vs rosario ...too many to remember . then sky came along and fuuckin ruined everything. now you get muppets paying to watch haye vs harrison, khan vs salita etc etc you gotta pay money now to watch shite. occasionally theres a good fight, but mostly its old men or so called superstar vs no hoper.

Even flooring a washed up Ruiz showed his lightning speed.

Valuev has also been rattled by John Ruiz, J.F. Beregeron, and Gerald Nobles.

Not so long ago, I tried to watch a Valuev fight on youtube (I think it was the Chagev fight. I got to about round 3 and got bored) and one of the first things the British commentator says as the fighters come into the ring is that Nickolai is not that durable and has been hurt on a few occasions. I thought, oh yeah? I thought the lump had the best chin in boxing... Hmm. I thought about posting about it on here but didn't think it would get much of a response.

I also happened to watch Valuev-Ruiz ll as it was televised by Channel 5 a few years ago, and Ruiz certainly hurt him and as I recall nearly had him over. However, I hadn't seen him hurt in the way Haye hurt him doing the funny dance.

The Valuev fight is a bad example to use to evidence Haye's power. He sucked in that fight and was horribly gun shy. If he'd have actually thrown some more punches he might have got Valuev out of there, but he was just too scared and ran away. You can't blame him as Valuev is a monster and Haye knew his own chin wasn't the best (despite what they say, fighters know their own weaknesses more than we do. Apart from the odd exception like Amir Khan), it was his 2nd fight at heavy-if you discount the Bonin fight- and Monty Barrett had (debatably) put him over in his first, so he stunk the place out.

There is plenty of evidence that he hits very very hard. It's just when he tries to box that he sucks.

He certainly does seem to have him in trouble in a way that is comparable to the way Haye did. Valuev is throwing back though even though he's rocked... I dunno. After Haye caught him with that shot he didn't know where he was. He just stumbled to the ropes then held. But anyway, it's just more evidence that Valuev could have been knocked out if Haye had actually tried. Bidenko tried, didn't he? And he didn't get him out of there. For anybody who's interested:
