i would've thought Sugar Ray Robinson's name would appear more on this post, indeed it was only mentioned once about 3 pages in.Only failed to go the distance once and that was all the way up at LH( SRR started his pro career at LW), that alone is impressive but when you take into account the calibre of fighters he faced and in addition the schedule of fights he met, i believe he deserves placing at the top.

on another note, i would place margarito up there, as a representitive of modern day fightes. tainted i know and apart from a chin there isnt too much to his game, still one of my favourite fighters.
will someone please just put him and mayorga inn the same ring

Not bad. His gym is opening in the next week or so, he has had the Leeds Rhino's training there for a bit of publicity this week. There is loads on it in The York Press, i dont know how to post links.

Injured boxing champion Henry Wharton has told for the first time of the incident that left him seriously injured in hospital – and has claimed he was NOT attacked.

Police say the former world-title challenger, 44, sustained potentially life-changing injuries in an attack that could have killed him.

But speaking from his hospital bed last night, Mr Wharton claimed nobody else was involved in the incident in Murton Lane. He told The Press he suffered the injuries in a game of football.

He dismissed rumours he had been struck by a car and attacked with a machete after attempting to intervene in a pre-arranged bare knuckle fight involving members of the travelling community, though police rejected his claims and said their investigation was ongoing. Six people have now been arrested.
