Mike Tyson v Bob Mirovic

Remember when this was mooted? It was back when Big Bob was still pretty capable, and I thought he'd have a fair chance of beating a faded Tyson, who always struggled with big and/or tall boxers, and Mirovic was both. If he could have soaked up the early bombs (a big if, but Bob was pretty durable too), started mauling and draping his weight on Tyson, it could have become pretty interesting late on. Thoughts?

Bob would have lasted 3 rounds at best against Tyson. Any clinching and flopping, eg. like he did so boringly against Hoppa, would have received the short shift by Tyson.

The only way Bob could have snared a win, would to have smeared his ears with vegamite and asked Mike to have a nibble - Evander Hollyfield style.

One thing about Bob, was throughout his 24 year ring career, his weight rarely fluctuatedl Quite amazing!

Well... I don't think Mirovic is any worse than Kevin McBride, who was limited but big and employed the right tactics and lasted enough rounds for Tyson to hang 'em up. The Tyson who lost to Danny Williams would beat Mirovic, but Bob may well have been able to do what McBride did.

Big Bob's career started in May, 1987, about two months after Tyson combined the WBA and WBC titles in his 29th fight. Tyson said after his last fight that his career ended in 1989. By the time McBride beat him Tyson was a mere shell of the fighter he was in the 1980s and losing more fights than he was winning.

I find this is a perfect example of how psychological (spelling?) boxing is. Once Mike got beat, he was never the same and as he lost confidence he became incapable of beating people like McBride.

Would love to see a new guy on the block with Tysons agression of the mid 80s

I'm not going to argue the case strongly. Because as I said, I only rate prime Bob as a maybe against the worst version of Tyson. But remember, not all of Tyson's losses were to great fighters.

In his last fight he gave up, but remember Williams had wins over Mirovic and Meehan (who beat Mirovic), Douglas was in the best shape and mental frame of his mind when he beat Tyson, Lewis and Holyfield were great champions.

Another way to put that would be to say that Bugner, with 80 fights under his belt, only managed a split decision over Mirovic who had 15 fights under his belt.
Big Bob's best effort was probably going the distance in an eight rounder with Nikolay Valuev, who was at the time unbeaten in 32 fights and on his way to the WBA world title.
