Cleverley's opponent has been announced.....................
It's Shawn Hawk
Re: Cleverley's opponent has been announced.....................
Its clearly not great but at 5 days notice they were always going to be screwed I guess.
This is what happens when you have average opponents lined up from the start, if it goes wrong, you end up with someone who should not at this stage be
in a world title challenge.
That having been said Hawk is tough enough, likes a row and comes forward, he is not the best mover and if Cleverly starts fast I am not sure how
Hawk will do on the backfoot. He digs a little and takes a reasonable shot but not sure how he will cope with being peppered with shots which is surely
Cleverly's aim.
He has to look good here or the yanks will not want him back you would imagine, he cannot afford a Karpency type performance or the American Dream may be over before it starts.
A finish before half way whilst showing some abilities, fast hands, footwork etc would be acceptable to the powers that be I would guess but 116-112 or thereabouts on the cards might
make it hard to come back unless its for Cloud or someone like that.

I instantly thought of a rather shitty 90's film with Bruce Willis when hearing his name. I wish it was Bruce Willis.....Final round wrote:It's Shawn Hawk

Is it a World Title defence or just a 10 rounder?

Hs it reached the stage yet where Nathan himself is getting disillusioned?
Looks a pretty terrible opponent for an alleged world champion.

Shawn Hawk recently lost to a guy who only had 8 fights previous. The judges scored the fight 119-108, 119-108 and 118-109
.
Re: Cleverley's opponent has been announced.....................
It's Joe Calzaghe all over again. Although I'm sure the spin will be about Cleverly going to America and the original opponant pulling out.

god, cleverley really needs to be put out of his misery and get knocked out.
Re: Cleverley's opponent has been announced.....................
I reckon Ethan Hawke would give him a better fight...
Re: Cleverley's opponent has been announced.....................
Clearly is wasn't going to be anyone of great note at such late notice but Shawn who?
I really feel for Nathan because he's in a no win situation. In fact I'd go so far as to say he's under a lot of pressure to take this kid out in style.
At least he's still young and has time on his side but after this we really need to see him kick on.

It's been known for a lot longer than this...GlobalBox wrote:Its clearly not great but at 5 days notice they were always going to be screwed I guess.
As for whether Clev is disillusioned or not, he did say it reached the stage where he didn't care who he was fighting anymore. Doesn't sound good. Hudson Hawk can obviously be outboxed but it looks like he must have a bit of a dig at least - Clev's defence is porous anyway and if he's sick as a pig, who knows?

He just lost to the wbo number 15. Is this being sanctioned? Better than coyne in rankings!

Hawk is not that bad to be fair.
Just look at his record. It is solid and the guy has never been stopped.
He even knocked out Bo Skipper at the Bears Casino in North Dakota. Let me tell you, they breed them tough in North Dakota and old Bo comes to fight.
Fair enough, Bo hasn`t see his own cock without the use of a mirror for several years, but he has a problem with training inbetween his shifts at the local meat factory and thus struggles to lose the bark.
Dangerous fight for Cleverly.

In truth I feel for Cleverley. He would fight anyone, I`m pretty sure of that. Warren is just feeding him average joes and getting him nowhere.dondada wrote:Fraser is becoming a specialist in theseforcefraser wrote:Hawk is not that bad to be fair.

Re: Cleverley's opponent has been announced.....................
I think that shows how little confidence Warren has in Cleverly at world level. He saw how much he struggled against Bellew and understandably doesn't want him going in with the top level guys before he's milked a few paydays. Probably sensible as I do think he'll be badly found out when he does step up.forcefraser wrote:In truth I feel for Cleverley. He would fight anyone, I`m pretty sure of that. Re: Cleverley's opponent has been announced.....................
Thing is, with this type of cack, he'll be even less prepared for the step up when it happens...sad, IMO.

Chucking Clev in against Hawk certainly shows what confidence FW has in the Welshmen.
Re: Cleverley's opponent has been announced.....................
Agreed, we saw that with Enzo Maccarinelli but I guess part of the promotor's job is to make the fighter (and himself) as much money as possible in the time he's fighting so whilst it's rubbish for the fans, if FW has no confidence in Cleverly's ability at the top level he'd be stupid to throw him in there as a bad defeat would hugely reduce his earning power. What he should be doing however is gradually increasing the standard of opponents Cleverly is facing so he gives himself the best possible chance of succeeding when he makes the step up. It's no good going from fighting Bellew, who is very much a European class/fringe world class fighter and then fighting Karpency and Hawk who are several levels below. That's poor management.dondada wrote:Thing is, with this type of cack, he'll be even less prepared for the step up when it happens...sad, IMO.
