I was thinking the same. Warren just wants to keep the title for as long as possible. Not forgeting that magic 0ArtOfWar wrote:It's Joe Calzaghe all over again. Although I'm sure the spin will be about Cleverly going to America and the original opponant pulling out.

Why not just take him off the bill completely and put him on the Burns/Groves bill next month ? Gives that card some additional substance and gives Dean Powell an additional month to find a more worthwhile opponent.

I e-mailed a mate saying something similar this morning. What is to be gained from this fight being in America now? I mean even if he comes out and destroys him early doors no one in America is going to be looking at it saying "Yeah now this is the man who I will pay big money to see in with B-hope/Chad Dawson" etc etc.

What about the original opponent. Why was he ever cancelled. He was better than Coyne and Hawk

Coyne was ready to take on the challenge in what would have been a nice tear up, but this washed up hack made a muck of things.

As it stands he's fighting on another promoters show (ie, not a warren show). He will be paid by that promoter and will not be paid by FWP. Also, the show gets broadcast on allegedly and having Cleverly will increase viewers. Mares v Moreno is a decent hardcore fans fight but Cleverly has greater mainstream appeal.Black Sam Bellamy wrote:Why not just take him off the bill completely and put him on the Burns/Groves bill next month ? If Clev were to fight on an existing show, it simply eats into FWP profits for the show. It's already being televised with Burns and Groves arguably bigger draws, so Clev doesn't add anything to an already expensive show except a larger dent in the bottom line.

Excellent piece, based on my all-time favourite boxing book. What a pudendum that man is.Locked & Loaded wrote:Coyne was ready to take on the challenge in what would have been a nice tear up, but this washed up hack made a muck of things.

I’m growing really concerned for Cleverley, after he beat Murat I thought the sky was the limit but the kid is on a hiding to nothing yet again, his motivation must be at an all time low, he’s bound to be stale so chances are he will underperform which will see him tumble further down people estimation.
Nathan needs to get away from allegedly; Frank will happily feed him minnows from now until forever.
In his next fight Cleverley needs to fight a real contender, obviously the true top dogs of the division currently have bigger fish to fry, so I would aim for the likes of Chilemba, Fonfara, Campillo, Green or Gutknecht.
I really don’t think it would take a lot to get rival champions Cloud or Shumenov in the ring because both are in exactly the same position that Cleverly is i.e. lost in the wilderness and in need of a break out fight.

Will Cleverly not boost ticket sales and general mainstream interest in the bill ?earsjohn wrote:As it stands he's fighting on another promoters show (ie, not a warren show). I really feel for Nathan, I know the lad personally and I know 100% he would fight anyone, he has the heart of a warrior and it is a shame he is not being given the fights he deserves.

I would love to see him in with Allan Green and the UK bookies looking at their records and making Green a 3/1 underdog. £££££

I also believe Nathan would fight any1 put in front of him but the problem with Nathan is his last couple of years he has been going backwards and he doesn't seem to be bothered. Everytime he has an interview he's always praising warren, or saying how happy he is to be fighting these crabs. Warren promised cleverly a big big name even before he fought bellew and he was talking Hopkins over 2 years ago! He is getting lined up with total bums and Nathan's saying how happy he is with his promoter.taffytoon wrote:I really feel for Nathan, I know the lad personally and I know 100% he would fight anyone, he has the heart of a warrior and it is a shame he is not being given the fights he deserves.
His father actually said in an interview were really happy frank has given us this opportunity to fight in America agains coyne
I don't expect him for 1 min to come out and say warrens a joke, but surely he could say something on the lines of its very disappointing for me, I'm fighting guys no ones ever heard of who are not ranked in the top 50!
IMO he can't be happy with his career of lately, so if he isn't surely have a go at warren or let people know your not happy with your progress .
Re: Cleverley's opponent has been announced.....................
The belt should be ignored. Nathan is a good fighter still learning his trade. I do agree his progress seems to have slowed. But he’s a young lad.
I want to see him in the ring more, getting more experience. And a rematch with Bellew is a must (I scored it a draw).

You don't need to look too far back to see Tony Bellew saying great things about FW and look what happened there. For what it is worth I would love to see him with another promotor who gets him the fights he craves.righthook wrote:I also believe Nathan would fight any1 put in front of him but the problem with Nathan is his last couple of years he has been going backwards and he doesn't seem to be bothered.
