Ike's last fight was in 99 v. Byrd; don't know exactly when he got arrested, but when should the Holy and Tyson fights have happened?
Mike got that suspension after the munchies incident in June 1997. Holyfield and Lewis tied up 99.
I guess you'd have preferred Holy/Ike instead of Holy/Bean and Tyson/Ike instead of Tyson/Botha; that is about the only time, given suspensions and arrests, that Mike and Ike could've fought.

Yup. Just what you said. :TU:

Savarese would've beaten Butterbean easily. Bean squeaked by ("prime" Bean) against Harry Funmaker. The ultimate hype job...and hog job.

I'll put this one here even though I don't agree with it:
McGuigan/Gomez
I don't think it could've happened because the Gomez/Lockridge winner was ordered to fight Layne next. Gomez did and lost.

When were Paz and McKart in the same weightclass? McKart was still a jr. middle v. Mundine, right?

Match-ups that could have happened but didn't?

Post by BenHistorian »

What match-ups could have happened that unfortunately didn't? The Mayweather-Pacquiao mess has got me thinking.
Frazier-Norton? Foreman-Shavers? Lewis-Bowe?

James was done at middle after the McCallum rematch in August 1992. He had a very hard time making weight.
RJJ and B-Hop fought for his vacant title.
By the time Toney/Hopkins would've been interesting at middle, James was gone from the division.
Hopkins was a virtual unknown during Toney's rather brief reign at middle.

That fight probably would have happened if it wasn't for world War II. Probably would have been a great fight. They still could have fought in 1946-1948, though Zale was slowing down by that point.
