Hattons confident about court win

From the BBC -

Ricky Hatton's camp is optimistic his proposed world-title fight with Carlos Maussa will go ahead, despite promoter allegedly's attempt to stop it.

Warren insists Hatton is still under contract with him and will apply for an injunction at the High Court on Monday.

But the IBF champion's father, Ray Hatton, told BBC Sport: "Our legal team is very confident Frank won't succeed.

"The truth will out in court and we'll be exonerated. We know we haven't got a deal and Frank knows it too."

Warren insists he has documentary evidence confirming his Sports Network company has a binding agreement with light-welterweight king Hatton.

But Hatton's team claim any contract with Warren ended in June and have teamed up with rival promoter Dennis Hobson for the proposed bout with WBA champion Maussa in Sheffield on 26 November.

"The last conversation I had with Frank was in August and we got off the phone not having an agreement," said Hatton snr.

"I expected Frank to go back to the drawing board and come back to us, but within a matter of hours we were told he was taking us to court.

"You would have expected him, after eight years together, to get back and resolve it."

Warren has accused the Hattons of greed, but Hatton snr countered: "We find it very, very strange that Frank has portrayed Richard and myself as little green-eyed monsters.

"We're accepting less to fight Maussa than Frank offered.

"We could have taken an IBF voluntary defence for considerably more money, but Richard said he wanted Maussa and Dennis Hobson got him.

"When it goes to court, everyone will be asking themselves 'why did Frank have to do this to the Hattons? Why did they have to go down this road?'"

Hmm interesting. Wasn't it Warren who first stated that he wanted Maussa for Ricky's next fight, and didn't the Hattons themselves say that this was all about money? There seems to be some contradictory statements coming from Ray Hatton here.

Yeah it's weird he's admitting they're taking less for the Maussa fight than with Warren....WTF??

If Warren was offering more than the whopping purse for Maussa, then what's this all about then?

Hatton makes the same mistakes las the Klitschkos did. It will mean less money and less fights at the end.

I think it might all boil down to the fact Ray Hatton, allegedly, has never got on with Warren ( so we hear ) - Ricky seems to be letting his dad take care of business - and blood IS thicker than water.

Its probably about going over to the US next year and making the big fights. There is no way Warren would want him to do so, he'd make peanuts from Hatton fighting over there whereas he makes a killing for fights at the MEN. Which route would Warren want to go do you think? :D :)

Sheffield Today UK -

Promoter splashes cash on Hatton

SHEFFIELD boxing promoter Dennis Hobson is spending thousands of pounds on a world title fight that may never happen.

But the entrepreneur today dismissed concerns over the fate of his planned Ricky Hatton v Carlos Maussa bout at the Hallam FM Arena, scheduled for November 26.
"I am 99.999 per cent sure it's going to happen," said Hobson, despite threatened legal action by Hatton's former promoter allegedly.

"The Hatton family have employed the top counsel in the country. I have paid a deposit for the Arena (thought to be around £3,000) and I am sending Maussa training expenses (around £10,000). I have authorised the Arena tickets to be printed too.

"Contrary to reports, no injunction has been served on me.

"In fact, the issues with allegedly may go to private arbitration rather than any court hearing," he said.

If Hatton performs for Hobson's Fight Academy group, it will be for Sky Sports - a blow for ITV who agreed a deal with Warren, presumably on the basis that Hatton would be part of a package involving Amir Khan and Joe Calzaghe.

Have you ever heard the phrase too little too late?

Allegedlly's offer was made after the horse had bolted so to speak.

That's what I think, it's been something which everyone I know who knows the Hattons have always said.

If that's the case, then you've got to say it's a bad business decision.

Wanting and delivering though are two different words - still waiting for the defining fight to be delievered for Calzaghe.

Didn't Sky/Hatton insinuate (on the Gatti vs Mayweather bill) that it was virtually impossible how things stood for him to get Maussa and Mayweather how things currently stood with the fact that Showtime show Sports Network fights and Maussa/Mayweather fight on HBO.

I thought Hatton/Sky were insinuating that the only easy fight he could make would be vs Cotto.

I don't know though.

Reading very much in between the lines, it seemed like Ray gave Fight Academy a deadline as some kind of proof that they can get the fight done. Hobson spoke with some pride that he got Maussa signed within 48 hours of the phone call from Ray. Perhaps whilst they wanted to stay with Sports Network, but were worried that it would be false promises.

All my own opinion, nothing concrete here.

Never thought of the HBO/Showtime angle, it's a real fornicator that.

The reason for Calzaghe not having a defining fight is to do with Calzaghe more than Warren IMO, Warren delivered Glen Johnson on his doorstep twice, and the fight didn't happen.

If Warren delivered Tszyu, then I cannot see where he would try and avoid a unification fight against a pigeon like Maussa, when Hatton was talking about fighting Corralles and Mayweahter, Warren was talking about Maussa.

But Glen Johnson is hardly a defining fight, he's got 10 losses! While he has been good recently he has been a little above journeyman level over the duration of Calzaghe's career.

Defining fights for Calzaghe would have been Ottke, Jones, Hopkins, Dariusz but all those passed him by.

Most though not all of those losses were highly controversial. He should have had more like 4 losses. It would also have been a chance to get a genuine world title at LH. Glen Johnson might have a patchy record, but remember, he often went to the other guys home town and fought at very short notice.

He's hardly looked a journeyman since, two wins (should have been) against Woods, a win over a Tarver, knocking Jones out. Hardly the work of a journeyman eh?

He got better with age, he was not particularly special in his early and middle career.

My point is Johnson would not have been a true defining fight just like Lacy isn't, not when you had Ottke, Jones, Hopkins, Dariusz all in and around the same weight as Calzaghe almost his whole championship career. I think its more like 6 or 7 losses, I can only remember 3 or 4 disputed decisions at thne most.

What managing experiance does Hatton snr have in managing outside of carpet fitting and being a reserve footie player?

I thought the reason they didn't go with Frank is because he said he wanted Frank to offer them the same amount of money other promoters have. :-?

Warren could possibly use that to his adavntage since Ray ain't seeming to keep track of what he's saying especially when his sons getting taken to court.

Other than that they mentioned Hatton on ITV news and showed him training and he looks good already. :TU:

Sure Warren could of got him Maussa too and got him more money for it too and more viewers would watch it on ITv for nothing than on PPV.

I'm not sure if that will be an issue. One of the two (HBO/Showtime) have stopped giving out multi fight contractss to boxers, offering only a fight by fight deal, which could free up boxers and make more big fights possible.

I've thought all along that Hatton has made a big mistake. Even if the Maussa fight goes ahead its hard to see what Rciky is gaining from his break with Warren. Family members should stay in the front row at ringside not try and take over the management and promotion etc....

Don't get the impression Ray has only just started managing Hatton's career, he has been doing so for a long time. So he has plenty of experience of doing it, its not like he just started it a few weeks ago!

Yes but he's always had Warren in the background. Don't get me wrong I'm no Warren fan but I think what happened is going to be detrimental to Rickys career just when he'd finnally taken that step up and made the break through.

Still sucking dick I see G-Man. Be careful they will probably drop you for someone who will work for even less of nothing than you do. Haven't you got Ray Hatton's lawn to cut or something? Run along, there's a good boy.
