john ryder

Post by misterpunch »

i saw ryder on the lynes/purdy card and the blokes sat next to me - all the islington crowd - were predicting big things for the feller. i have my reservations but he looked good, my problem is that he is 24 and should have had more fights than he has, in my view, if he is going places. any thoughts on john ryder?

How many fights do you think he should of had by now then?

Have you possibly been converted by his fans?

Ain't seen much of Ryder, I know he was a decent amateur abit small @ 75kg & has been trained by an ex Wiley old pro in Colin lake, who has invested a lot of time in the kid so he will be half decent no doubt

i think hes had about 12 fights. i'd have thought at 24 you'd have had more if you were really gonna make your mark. perhaps i'm wrong - no doubt he has talent and lake knows his stuff, but i dont think he's been busy enough

I've been really impressed by him. Something about him always reminds me of Terry Downes; mannerisms rather than fighting ability.I think he will reach,at least, British title level.

Reminds me of a southpaw Colin Dunne almost a mirror image with that awkward looking roll & effective herky jerky style

yeah, his style is intriguing - awkward bugger to fight! take the point about calzaghe. i'd like to see him again and go beyond british level but theres a lot of good opposition at the weight

He gave George groves a good close contest in the ams but was on the small side at 75kg
I think he needs to fill into the weight more & hopefully matures nicely.
Has a very old school style & should be in some exciting fights in the future

I really like what I've seen of Ryder so far, looks to have a good mix of skills and agression. Hope he can get the win in the English title in his next fight and then next year really kick on.
