After what I seen tonight I know who I'll be backing in the rematch.

Just watched the stoppage. I dont think it's as bad as some folk are making out but it's still a bit of a stinker.

What a crock of shite!SteveDow wrote:The refereeing decision apart, Enzo looked so fragile in there. He'd had an ok 1st round but the look on his face as his trainer was giving him instructions for the 2nd round said it all for me. He looked utterly petrified. I really like Enzo, was a very decent boxer in his prime and seems a great guy but physically and mentally the guy is gone at the game. He's gonna end up getting seriously hurt if he continues. He needs to think of his wife and kids. Obviously he hasn't made anywhere near enough money to live in luxury but surely there are other ways for him to earn a decent wedge than this.
Did we watch the same fight?
While it lasted I seen Mckenzie swinging wildly and mostly missing with Enzo sticking to a gameplan.

Na m8, I'll stick by what I've said. Of the thousands and thousands of rounds I've watched as a punter, or at shows I've worked on or even watched from my nice comfy sofa, in the grand scheme of things I've seen worse. It's not "the worst stoppage ever" but it's up there. As I said its a stinker and would I have stopped it? I'd like to say no but it's Enzo were talking about here so who knows. I'm surprised he didn't get knocked out given that a couple of shots actually got through. Should IJL be sacked, possibly, will th board do it possibly not.Boxingcutsman wrote:The Insider wrote:Just watched the stoppage. Come on, you can't be seriousof course it's has bad has what people are making out, In fact it's f#*king worse
what a Pratt IJL is, he needs his A* ref badge revoked now, how many times are him, mark green and terry o'connor to name but a few gonna keep being inconsistent and mess up before Robert Smith takes his head from out his arse and realises that these so called "Honest Mistakes" he always says they are, keep happening by the same referees and need to stop. There obviously not "Honest Mistakes" there blatant incompetency at best.
We pay enough in licensing fee's, board tax, etc etc, start doing something to stop this from keep happening.

Perhaps knowing what happened, lessened the impact. The Insider wrote:Just watched the stoppage. I dont think it's as bad as some folk are making out but it's still a bit of a stinker.
As it happened live.. It was ludicrous.

Perhaps your right. That and the fact it won me a few quid may have slightly swayed my thoughts just a tiny tiny bit too ;)G0mez wrote:Perhaps knowing what happened, lessened the impact. The Insider wrote:Just watched the stoppage. Evidently we didn't watch the same fight as for me even though McKenzie was swinging wildly, every time he connected Enzo looked vulnerable. Do you think Enzo would have won that fight had it continued? The guy was wobbled by shots that weren't even properly landing. I'm convinced he'd get stopped badly if they rematch this.
Re: Ovill Mckenzie vs Enzo Maccarinelli
Surely when Enzo calms down he can see that it was a positive thing from his perspective. His stock seems to have risen given that he was able take some solid shots in there. He didn't end up losing legitimately so he gets to have another high profile fight with Mackenzie rather than being on the scrapheap once and for all.
Very disappointing from Ian John Lewis. If he'd have changed his mind and waved the fight on people would have soon forgotten the mistake given the likely fireworks that would have followed as the fight progressed.

Could not have put it better. Plenty of work out there as a commentator of FW channel. Going into training. And things like after dinner speaking.
Re: Ovill Mckenzie vs Enzo Maccarinelli
Poor stoppage!i did think that's a relief enzo did not get hurt!
Re: Ovill Mckenzie vs Enzo Maccarinelli
yeah i remember shannon briggs took a one sides beating al rounds and ref let him continue to take vitalis bombsG0mez wrote:Leaving emotions out of it, he is simply too erratic in his approach.
Shannon Briggs was beaten into an intensive care bed following IJL's passive attitude in the Vitali fight.
He needs to go - because he quite clearly knew he'd read it wrong, yet still gave the 'concerned' look to Enzo and stuck with his choice.
also he had some shit refereeing with the hopkins pascal fight - legit knockdowns

Re: Ovill Mckenzie vs Enzo Maccarinelli
WTF was that?
He didn't even wave it off, he could have just called a break.
It can't be defended but surely to stop this and to stop ref's going the other way they should be allowed to call a break and take a good look at someone. Maybe current rules don't help. Refs seem to either stop it or let it go too far, no other option.
IJL looked baffled himself there.

Re: Ovill Mckenzie vs Enzo Maccarinelli
All through the announcements IJL was hanging his head in shame he knew he had messed up big time. Poor refereeing one of the worst I have ever seen.
Re: Ovill Mckenzie vs Enzo Maccarinelli
In a top ten of bad decisions over the past three or four years, how often would IJL feature?

Re: Ovill Mckenzie vs Enzo Maccarinelli
Everytime IJL stops a fight he doesnt seem to wave it off until about 30 seconds after walking between the fighters. When Carl Johanneson stopped Billy Corcoran a few years back he did the same thing.

I think your not the only one to win a few shilling on the stoppage Insider. The Insider wrote: Perhaps your right. That and the fact it won me a few quid may have slightly swayed my thoughts just a tiny tiny bit too ;)
I wonder how IJL feels this morning?
To give the guy some some forgiveness, I can only assume he saw something in Enzo's eyes when his head went reeling a couple of times in the exchange, that the viewer didn't see - which triggered his intervention.
That's perfectly understandable - but it's more the fact that once he realised he was wrong and Enzo was fine, he then stuck with his decision to halt the fight, instead of waving the action back on.
He would be praised for maybe being compassionate, that it's 'Better to be safe that sorry' - before letting the action continue.
But as it stands he didn't and gave the "Im sorry Enzo, you've had enough" look. Which makes me firmly believe he has zero business in there anymore - as he can't read a fight to save his life if you compare this one, with Hopkins Pascal, and Shannon Briggs and plenty of domestic scene bouts.

If that's not the worst stoppage ever then mention another one that was worse

Thee have been many. The second Hamed vs Buckley fight immediately springs to mind.allahsnackbar wrote:If that's not the worst stoppage ever then mention another one that was worse
