Sick to death of refs ruining fights. Ijl is a consistently poor ref and an even worse judge. Are there no consequences for messing up like that?

It's not "the worst stoppage ever" but it's up there. As I said its a stinker and would I have stopped it? I'd like to say no but it's Enzo were talking about here so who knows. I'm surprised he didn't get knocked out given that a couple of shots actually got through. Should IJL be sacked, possibly, will th board do it possibly not.

If that's not the worst stoppage ever then mention another one that was worse[/quote]

When Jamie Cox fought that African Sai, and was given the disgraceful decision in a fight he clearly lost.....

....IJL scored it to Cox by 2 or 3 points.

He never gave Jamie Booth a single point against Kid Galahad.

And he scored Purdy vs Colin Lynes a draw !

Home cooking.

If Enzo needs to be protected to that extent he really shouldnt be boxing. It was a very bad stoppage whichever way you look at it. If Enzo had really looked in trouble and he didnt, I could have understood IJL stepping in. Enzo was doing everything right, weather the early storm and then try to box his way to a points victory. I thought Enzos last fight was contraversial but this one takes the biscuit.

The worse thing is Enzo was dealing with Ovils power, boxing nicely landing some decent combos and body shots. We may have eventually been stopped but Ovil can run out of steam fastish. A win could've put Enzo on a decent path but now he has literally nowhere to go

IJL could've easily let the fight go on. That was terrible he can't read boxing. He couldn't read that Hopkins knockdown Pascal twice too

The referee is there to protect the boxers, of that there is no argument. But that does not explain or cover bad officiating. IJL has been highly inept at both refereeing and Judging. He must explain his reasons for these actions, the guys not fit for this job. It was his hesitation to commit to his decision last night that justifies this.

I don't like slagging refs, I personally find them all really amiable and friendly. However they are stopping fights too quick. I've never heard of a boxer being injured by a fight going on too long. You must remember that in MMA a man can be prone unconsious taking shots and still no one has being seriously injured on any western shows.

Edit: Watson Vs Eubank..... but perhaps a corner intervention would have saved any hesitation on the referees part. These days they border on ridiculous.

Yep agree mate, a lot is made of this 'we must protect the boxers' to trya nd gloss over some absolutely shocking early stoppages. End of the day, there has to be a certain element of danger to the sport or we all may as well go home and play chess.

The Dark Destroyer wrote:I agree this was too early but do you think it's because of Enzo? He's taken a lot in the last couple of years, being allowed to take that shot from Frenkel when he was clearly finished was poor reffing, I'd rather see him stopped too early rather than too late like that again.
I'd rather not see him in the ring if I'm honest, but if he's in there I'd rather see him given a fair chance to win or lose, just like everyone else, not given some sort of special 'Enzo reffing'.

Enzo vs McPhilbin ended in massive controversy, he gets banned, then has another controversial fight.

Just seen this, what a joke, how long till he jumps in to save a boxer before his opponent even lands with his first punch, wish i could fornicate up like this in my job and not get the boot.

Bullsh1t. While Manfredo may not have been hurt, Calzaghe landed 40 unanswered punches and Manfredo did not throw anything back.
Enzo wasn't hurt, landed a goo left uppercut just before, McKenzie was wasting a lot of energy missing wildly and has always been a 5-6 round fighter.

You can't counter by shouting 'Bullshit!' and coming up with an absolute steaming shit of an argument!
No way, no how did Calzaghe land 40 punches in that final flurry. No way.
He might have thrown about 10 punches and about 20 wide slaps, a few of which might have gotten through, but landing 40 punches? You must be mad.

Manfredo didn't throw a punch for 8 seconds whilst Calzaghe windmilled at a high guard.

That stoppage was as soft as shite.
Manfredo didn't land a punch in the final round. To compare a guy who is completely out of his depth like Manfredo was, to what happened on Friday, shows a shocking misrepresentation of facts. It might have been a soft stoppage, but Manfredo froze and wasn't fighting back

You've answered your own question there you fool. So should a ref step in when a fighter isn't hurt (cuts etc aside)? Enzo was hit with a few clean punches that clearly rocked his head and he had no intention of firing back as the long delay proved when the Legend that is IJL stepped in. Manfredo got slapped to fvck and was still moving when stopped and was in no danger.
