John Murray or Ricky Burns do not have the SN hype publicity machine behind them.
Ricky Burns with wins over Graham Earl and Haider Ali should of won the award.

Isn't Burns an SN Fighter?

Murray has the Hennessy publicity beast behind him though!

Good to see so many names being put foward, makes for some interesting matches in the future.
Not many fighters in the higher divisions have been mentioned though.

Can't exactly see what Mitchell has done to warrant this award but still he is a good British prospect and i wish him all the best. I fully expect him to be a WBU champion though in the future, hopefully he will only use it as a stepping stone though and demand more.

i thought roy rutherford holds the english title at super featherweight? unless he has vacated it recently but the mandatory contender for it is billy corcoran.

According to the EBU, Ricky Burns is fighting Alessandro Di Meco on 21st October for the Super feather EU title. ie. It's actually saying the fights been agreed. But I assume Burns would be fighting on the Harrison card early November.

Janes should have been disqualified for that dreadful butt in the first round, with no warning should have just been thrown out, it was disgraceful.

Mitchell is a talent, but as normal us Brits have got to find something to hate about a prospect rather than just enjoy him for what he is, a good young kid with loads of potential
"a good young kid"? By many accounts I've heard, he's a nasty little prick outside of the ring.
ive got a mate who is good firend with his brother vinny.

And Kevin at first may have been a bit brash but has now very much calmed down so ones suggest that info is somewhat dated.

And i ask who as a 19 year old kid hasnt been a few scrapes / been a bit of a prick.
I know i sure have and was and still can be. :TU:

I also back up Kev's comments whenever ive spoken to him (which is only a copuple of times i hasten to add) he has been affable pleasant and likeable chirpy lil cockney character.

The Italian one? Interesting experience for Burns then. Certainly not the usual Warren policy.

They lost the purse bids on that one, but they are still going through with it. Yeah definitely not the usual SN policy but will be good for him win or lose. Not enough of these young guys are allowed to take this sort of chance these days.

Mitchell's a brilliant talent and there could have been worse picks, but I agree Ricky Burns, Kevin Anderson and John Murray to name three should have been ahead of Kevin on the basis of the opposition faced.

Very unfair :(

Well done to him, I thought it would be a formality that Amir Khan would have gotten it...guess SN haven`t got all the writers on side(only the BN ones).

Lets hope he can prove his ctitics wrong :TU:

Not lost a round in his pro carreer so far, I'm sure he will be stepped up gradually this season and certain he will rise to the occassion the higher the level of opposition.
Good luck to him.

Nice to see mitchell get roughed up rather than roughing people up, least we forget in his fight before janes he punched that guy whilst on the deck... mitchell should have been DQ'd for that.

Agree with your whole post.

Henry Janes didn't bring much to the ring other than a strong will to fight. A lot of people on here had the fight a draw* (though I had Mitchell nicking it). It's revealing that his biggest test has been against the one guy that has ever fought back - albeit with poor quality punches.

Andy Morris for me, he has faced a fair level of competition, was in a great fight with Rocky Dean, very impressive last time out against Mickey Coveney. Next up is John Simpson for the British feather title

Okay, that post was a bit nippy, I'll give you that. But don't expect everyone to join on the Mitchell hype train - this board covers the WHOLE UK, not just London. And I've yet to see one single person NOT from London to ever jump to Kevin's defence when he's getting crticism.

Ricky Burns stepped up and dismantled the British champion a weight division above, now he's putting his unbeaten record in the hands of the flaky Italian scorecards.

Tony Doherty upped sticks and relocated to Manchester to get ahead in the game, while Kevin Anderson has took a couple of gambles (including a huge one last night) with his unbeaten record.

John Murray travelled to Florida and won over the crowd - almost stopping a guy who went 9 rounds with Chop Chop Corley in his next fight.

Mitchell, in contrast, has been very much in the comfort zone with his SN backing - a nice glass elevator to the ladders of the others. There's no way he would have got on the FFN intro, got so much copy comparing him to Nigel Benn, and have got fed so many knock-over jobs if he hadn't been a SN fighter based in London with a big following.

He's a good prospect and his skills are obvious - this shows he has worked hard, and every fighter who works hard deserves their share of success - but, in my opinion, there are a lot more worthy prospects who have been shat upon by the hype.

That's more like it a decent argument :TU: So much better than a dumb uninformed throwaway comment, but first you cannot blame the fighter for the "hype" or the boxing politics. The fighters job is to train hard and defeat anyone put in front of him in the ring which i might add Mitchell does extremely efficiently. Love him or hate him anyone who knows anything about the sport knows the kid has got something special.
It pisses me off when i read posts by so called boxing enthusiasts who clearly have no idea what there talking about, Mitchells amateur career speaks volumes, and He's carried on impressing in the paid ranks.
Its true he was a bit brash in his earlier bouts but that's down to age he's
calmed down now and is a better fighter for it as for opposition he will gladly fight any one put in front of him a lot of fighters are not prepared to face Mitchell so early in there careers.
The bottom line is Mitchell does his job and does it well he does not deserve the crap thrown at him on this site. Wait and see Mitchell is the real deal and i for one look forward to seeing him silence his critics. I wish him every success he works hard enough for it he deserves it.
I'm not trying to change anyone's mind everyone is entitled to there own opinion but give the kid a chance. Some people are gonna hate the guy whatever he does but that's boxing. But that said the personal attacks are Fuckin Outrageous    i quote "nasty little prick outside the ring" That's absolute bollocks anyone who knows Mitchell knows that's crap, like the majority of good fighters he leaves the aggression in the ring and the gym. Anyway nuff said im outa here. Be lucky :TU: :TU: :TU: :TU:

I would actually say SHOULD have, but it still doesn't mean that Janes' action were wrong. What I couldn't understand was the timing of Janes' action - he was having his best spell of an (at that time) evenly fought contest and he does that.

Kevin should have got DQ'd - if I remember rightly, he did it more than once and never got warned.

+WHAT ARE YOU ON!!!!!!!!
No you don't remember rightly. What actually happened was Janes came out arms flailing like a fuckin' windmill determined to derail Mitchell by fair means or foul and when and in a moment of frustrated madness he stuck the nut on. credit where credits due at a ruck in a pub car park it would have been a sweet move but in a licenced boxing match it deserved no less than a DQ. Janes was lucky to get away with it. Credit to Janes again though he didn't whinge when Kev slammed in a low blow shortly after. Dishes out but can take it a real brawler :box: But apart from a bit of payback Mitchell fought a clean fight!!
