I see, but if you're going to use Alexander's recent performances as an assessment criterion, Brook's recent performances should receive equal attention. Even if Alexander wasn't outright impressive, I think that his performances were more impressive than Brook's; when used to assign probabilities of victory, a comparison of recent form shouldn't negatively impact Alexander.

I also believe that much of the criticism directed toward Alexander is unwarranted. His recent performances were mediocre only if excitement is conflated with ability and whether it's used effectively, which I think is a mistake; that a fighter is difficult to watch doesn't make them less capable or a performance less dominant. Since moving to 147, Alexander has boxed circles around his opponents, outfought them, and hardly lost a round. It is those outcomes and the abilities which led to them that should be focused on when analysing this bout, and not the degree of entertainment provided. Many people conflate these factors, which in my opinion leads to distorted assessments of fighters and thus fights.

I think that Alexander is somewhat underrated on this forum: he's fast with his hands and feet; he has good stamina; he can box and trade effectively; and he has a solid chin. He's also far more experienced than Brook and will be fighting at home, where he has benefited from controversial judging. Brook is very capable too, but he's never proven his ability against top opponents, and he recently struggled with someone who isn't a top opponent. This is a great matchup as both fighters are very good and the bout could realistically go either way, but I consider the most probable outcome an Alexander win.

First of all, I agree that the fight isn't signed yet and will only allow myself to get excited about this when it is properly announced. That said, from what I hear, the offer is a good one and acceptable financially so that's the main hurdle.

I think Kell is potentially of interest to Herr Schaefer and his crew and they probably think it worthwhile to throw him in at the deep end stateside and see what he can do.

Kell doesn't fear anyone, certainly not Alexander, and would take this fight anywhere, without question.

I think that for the terms involved, Kell will discipline himself to do the job properly and i know Dom is already planning lengthy foreign training camps even though he's just got a very new born baby to look after - that tells you that this is a serious offer and the team is getting ready to go. I think removing Kell from all the temptations of the Xmas party scene is the best way to go to ensure his resolve isn't tested.

As to the fight itself, if Kell goes in with fitness and confidence in his own condition that he did against Saldivia I think his accuracy, hand speed and power will be too much for Devon. Kell is excellent against lefties and in particular has a great jab and very good backhand right, the key straight shots for boxing a southpaw. I think he'll stop him or DA will find a way out.

Finally, Alexander has long been talked about as a possible future opponent for Kell; don't forget that Dom had a very close look at him when he boxed Witter and had always had his own opinion on this match. Junior told me two years ago that Kell would have no problems with DA and it's fair to say there's a genuine confidence in the camp that if this fight happens, Kell will come home with the belt ....

Indeed. Alexander is boring to watch, but very effective. I can't see anything but a decision win for him.

Good fight well done. I'm a little concerned though that Brook cannot get Alexander here. I'm just wondering what that means for the money Sky are putting into boxing.

Neither Barker nor Brook have able to secure home turf in world title fights. Okay, didn't expect Barker to get Martinez to come here - but Alexander isn't that big a draw.

Its like Hearn / Sky gave up on getting the fight over here before negotations had started.

Or Brook is getting a nice few quid and thinks he can win regardless of venue, plus if so he would make a dent in America by winning...

I will be very pleased if this fight is made, January is much sooner than the dates for this I had in my head. I think it would probably be a pretty tight fight, I like what I've seen of Brook so far and its time to step up. Be brilliant to see him win a world title "away" too if he could.

it's a fight brook can win. he is a slick and fast fighter and i believe he can offset alexander. alexander is a moody fighter, like chad dawson, who has slickness and agility but seems to lack stamina and can become negative. i hope brook can raise his performance and take a title away from home.

brook would probbaly have more trouble vs a slow, albeit strong and relentless tough guy like maidana (whom alexander beat easily) or soto-karrass or someone akin to peterson. i reckon he can win a title but he'll have the same kind of problems as khan, going by the desperate struggle with carson jones.

haha, thats one way of putting it.

another might be that certain sheffield-based posters would have him ko'ing King Kong on the basis of a 12 round victory over Matty Hatt.

the truth is probably as ever somewhere in the middle.

I think some of the criticism he gets is due to how he was handled by FW and also because he has'nt finished the likes of Hatton when he should of but in his last outing had his opponent been tougher i think alot of people if not all would have come round a bit.He prepared properly and looked like it.

Great opportunity for Kell.

Such a stage and situation can make a fighter. He has the ability to win this fight, no doubt.
