I just wonder if the pressure is getting to him. He gets a lot of flak on the forums, no doubt he reads them.

He seems to have lost it, the post listing his bad calls as either a ref or a judge is now very long. He used to be an exceptional ref, the best in the business for me back 4/5 years ago. I remember when Craig Docherty was defending his Commonwealth Super Feather title and him allowing Craig to continue with an horrendous cut - that was the first time I had ever disagreed with any call he'd made.

I think he needs to take a break, not retire - he's young and was fantastic but I think there are too many eyes watching his performances now and he is finding the pressure tough.

your right stu he was one of the best in the business iv seen him ref many a good fight and get the balance just right letting fights flow and breaking fighters up at the right times the prizefighter thing did him no favors but everyone must remember you can not score a prizefighter fight a draw and this puts pressure on the judges. the shannon briggs fight everyone was on his case, but to me there where no flurrys of punches that warranted a stoppage yes briggs took a beating but it was from a series of one two's and single big rights over 12 rounds no sustained attacks that a ref could jump in to. yes the enzo stoppage was shocking and im sure he knows he fu-ked that up but i bet he had in that back of his mind that enzo is shot and didn't want enzo to sustain any long lasting damage perhaps a break for him may be a good call stu

Apparently there is (or at least was) a contingency plan if a Prizefighter fighter is a draw - it goes an extra round.

I thought there was one stage in the Briggs fight (I think it was the end of the 7th round) in which Briggs was really rocked I think thats when it was getting beyond a joke that the fight continued. Even Briggs looked on like it HAD been stopped.

someone said before about why did they let IJL ref the fight,in title fights both fighters are sent a letter by the board telling them who the ref/judges are, if there was any problem then why didn't they (the boxers) contact the board to ask for someone different ?, i think IJL is all in all a good ref but maybe the board could look at not letting him ref any title fights and stick to 4/6 round fights just like some fighters are restricted to ?, (just to get his confidence back) ? people slagging him off is not the way to help him improve as a ref in what is such a difficult job to do ?

Jeff thomas record says different he had a draw in prizefighter and lost to the refs deciding vote but it went down as draw on his record.

Hey Darcy i dont know if that used to b the rule but its not the same now only the promoter gets a list of whos working the show and apart from title fights the refs decide whos working which bout on the night.

Never heard that for pros but ive seen it done a few times on unlicensed shows . maybe would be a good thing to adopt

i'm only going off when my brothers boxed for a title they got a letter from the board and in it they said that if there was any problem with the ref ect ect then get in contact, but if you say the promoter gets a letter then he must of been happy with it all

He jumped in too soon but in boxing it's better soon than a second too late. There was a thread earlier this year about the ref who allowed There was no whiff of corruption about it, if he acted fast it was to preserve Enzo. I think Enzo ought to have a rematch, the bout last week was inconclusive; I can imagine that Ovill will fancy another go; I'd tune in again, for my money it was shaping up into a nice bout; all three men must feel gutted (Ovill less so though).

I'm afraid it is this very modern, very British approach of 'Ooh let's not give someone too hard a time' that has let this man referee and judge incompetently for so long now. Something needs to be done, enough is enough I can't swallow one more fight-spoiling decision from this man!
