I asked about Wally Swift on this forum a while ago after remembering how good his sons were. Lots of posters said how he was a very skilled boxer and an astute and intelligent man; 76 is a good age and from reading of him he seems to have had a good life and is very well thought of; Respect to Mr Swift and RIP.

He was a well respected man, and a very tough boxer.

I remember him training his sons Wally Jnr and Tony. Plus being in Del Bryans corner. There wasn't much he didn't know about boxing.

Yes, another great loss to the world of boxing.
I remember Wally well when he used to bring his boxers down to their contests in London, was also in Reading a few years ago when his son Wally jnr defeated Tony Collins for the British Title, he also handled the Ashton brothers, I will always remember Wally in the corners of his boys he was always on his knees talking to them, always came accross as a nice man. I have a nice photo uf us together taken at the Boards 75th bash in Cardiff a few years ago. My thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.

I remember going to that one. Piper was on the show too, wasn't he? Anyway, Wally was a legend, as tough to deal with for a budding writer as he was for his opponents in the ring. To say he didn't suffer fools gladly would be a major understatement. I got a few hairdryers off Wally, but I could never hold it against him, he was proper old school and great when you got him talking. RIP to a real fighting man, God bless

RIP had the pleasure of meeting him a couple of times. Sparred one of his boxers when I was an Am and fought Gareth Wiltshaw who was actually a bit better then his record. Moved lovely.
