some latest title news from the BBB of C 14/11/2012
British title :
Lightweight : Ben Murphy v Martin Gethin, vacant title : This should be a real tear up between two tough guys.
English title :
Bantamweight : Ryan Walsh v Kid Galahad : Will Kid Galahad with his WBC International title and world ranking, go for the English title at this stage ?
Terry Flanagan v Gary Sykes : this would be a good fight, but again will gary Sykes be prepared to step down and rebuild, as shown in prizefighter, Flanagan is improving all the time, this will be close again.
English title : Erick Ochieng v Nasser Al Harbi : This will be a great fight, 2 young fighters with ambition and ability, the British title could become vacant if Rose wins, so it will be all to play for.
These are just some I have not noticed earlier, Purse bids to be in by 12 noon, 12th December 2012, fights to take place by the end of February 2013.

Pyenest ,
Makes it hard without TV , non massive ticket sellers and therefore hard to pat them what they deserve for a fight like this.
People do not understand how bad it is in boxing at the moment.

you telling me ? It is a worry, boxing has become too dependent on Tv money, far too dependent, like football.STEVE WOOD wrote:Pyenest ,

i got a feeling that none of the english title fights will happen. ochering will not defend the english title a 3rd time and risk a british shot in a 50-50 with nasser. walsh is a risk for galahad dont think mh will make it if he does its a interesting fight and judging by steve wood comments which i fully understand and respect cant see Terry Flanagan v Gary Sykes happening unless another promoter puts a bid in. i wud like to see all of these fights tho, well done to the board for making some very interesting 50-50 fights

Good post, agree, the Board need to do this more often, it either makes the fights or forces the champion to vacate, if he is not prepared to face a risky challenge, this will stop champions picking easy fights, until a bigger title comes along, it will also give the fans what they want, "proper fights".maley1984 wrote:i got a feeling that none of the english title fights will happen. ochering will not defend the english title a 3rd time and risk a british shot in a 50-50 with nasser. walsh is a risk for galahad dont think mh will make it if he does its a interesting fight and judging by steve wood comments which i fully understand and respect cant see Terry Flanagan v Gary Sykes happening unless another promoter puts a bid in. i wud like to see all of these fights tho, well done to the board for making some very interesting 50-50 fights

Re: some latest title news from the BBB of C 14/11/2012
9 wins and 5 defeats i'd say Crolla, Mathews, Murray, Flannagan and Sykes would all deserve to be ahead of him i know Flannagan and Sykes are there for SFW English title fight but were the 2 finalists of the lightweight prizefighter and Flannagan wanted Rees so must want to stay at lightweightCraigyid14 wrote:I hope that's tounge in cheek. Fair enough he was ahead against theophane but then got stopped and since then he has beaten Phil Gill who had never beaten anyone with a winning record?

Was very unlucky against Theophane, after taking the fight at short notice, he got tied, after winning all the early roundsphilipgill wrote:Craigyid14 wrote:I hope that's tounge in cheek. Ben murphy is more deserving than most fighters.cocobongo wrote:Ben Murphy doesnt deserve that fight

Really - since when are boxers purses decided by what they deserve ? (who decides who deserves what ?).STEVE WOOD wrote:Pyenest ,

As in all walks of life at the moment, boxers (people in general) are paid the going rate depending on what the person doing the paying can afford.
It comes back to the old argument - what would be better for the boxers careers, 1 fight a year for £10k or 2 fights each for £5k (numbers just used as an example) ?
Do you give the boxers a choice ? - eg. there is no TV money, you don't sell many tickets so I can pay you £x for this fight - do you want it or not ?

i know for a fact fighters have been told if u dont sell so many tickets by a certain date or all the sellers that the show will b called off puts massive pressure on the fighters wen they should b concentrating on the fight but i can see it from a promotors view they are not guna put a show on and lose money
Re: some latest title news from the BBB of C 14/11/2012
I understand what you are saying, but the point I am trying to make is that Steve Wood made an assumption that because he felt that he could not pay the boxers what they "deserve" then the fight would not go ahead. In the meantime, both boxers stagnate.maley1984 wrote:bripez wrote:Really - since when are boxers purses decided by what they deserve ? (who decides who deserves what ?).STEVE WOOD wrote:Pyenest ,

Did Steve give the option to the boxers as in my example - eg. if you want £x then the show will not go on, but if you will get paid £y then the show can go on - what do you want to do ?
I am sure that Steve knows his costs off the top of his head with a fair degree of accuracy - he then looks as thow many tickets he needs to sell and at what price, and hopefully the income will be greater than the outgoings.
If it is not, then he needs to reduce his costs and/or increase his income. It is easier to reduce costs (as this is under his control) and the biggest costs is likely to be the boxers purses.
Therefore you adjust the boxers purses until you get at least a breakeven position - then tell the boxers the amount and confirm that they will accept.
I know it is an easy statement to make, but aren't promoters meant to promote ?

Out of interest what would you expect to be paid for a ten round fight and the 8 weeks of training 2/3 times a day
