Bellew Cut - Horrific!

Post by johnswan1 »

I hope this doesn't affect him in the long term. He was brilliant to fight on with it but shouldn't the doctor really be taking a look at it? I would have hated to see Bellew lose but surely there was a huge risk of causing real long term damage? Well done with your win Bomber, that was really nasty!

It will leave a nasty scar but it would've done if they'd stopped the fight as soon as it happened.

It may open up again in future fights but it may have done if they'd stopped the fight as soon as it happened.

The chances of a guy as bad as Bolonti being that high up on the light heavy rankings, of one of the major organisations any time soon are slim. Losing to him would have been a major set back, even if it was on a cut. Bellew and his team are putting themselves into the mix for a shot at Dawson and the money that goes with it. They've got to be single-minded and push for that. Bolonti was a stepping stone that had to be dealt with.

All involved last night did the right thing.

At the venue i could see he was cut but i had no idea it was as bad as that , i thought he looked a little off form but to continue with a cut like that we cant really be too critical .

With this precedent, surely no fight in a British ring will ever be stopped on a cut again!
Barrera must be gutted on being stopped with a cut less than half the size!

it would have been stopped if it was a accidental head clash or if it was Bolonti that was cut

In that picture Mick has spread open the cut as much as he could to apply 1/100 adrenaline solution, had the cut been a little lower down it would have been stopped IMHO.

Barrera's team never really managed to staunch the flow, giving the ref justification to stop it, though not correctly in my opinion, as the cut never worsened, it was clearly to favour Khan and ensure he won, no doubt about it.

firstly i am not sure how cutsmen continually seem to not bother wearing gloves to protect themselves and the fighters, this should be law!! as hep etc can be passed. Imagine if both fighters were cut, rubbing heads etc!.. gloves would not stop it but would help minimise it.

secondly...part of the worry with a cut like that is injury to the muscles around the eye!!

I'd guess that if intricate work needs to be done that gloves would really hinder your work

You would NEVER find surgeons operating without gloves, I also think cuts men should wear gloves.

Have to say I noticed this last night and it's the first time I have noticed a cutsman not wearing gloves. Maybe I haven't paid much attention between rounds before. But it definately needs to be made law.

Defensively Bolonti was good, offensively he was shite. Could've beaten Bomber there if he really left everything in the ring.

I would imagine if all close by are tested before hand for contagious diseases and Mick's hands are unblemished and he has properly scrubbed up, the chances of passing anything is still very slim really. Gloves wouldn't do anything to prevent anything getting in from elsewhere unless he put a new pair on at the end of every round. Nothing to stop anything else close by lingering on a glove any more than skin... I agree latex gloves would hinder the work of the cuts man really.

Bellew must have been in some serious pain. Or if he didn't notice it in the ring he'll be noticing it now.

It'll hurt for years to come as well. Especially if someone lands a clean punch in that spot again.

That's what I thought, but the doctor looked as if he did not want to say anything.

Better to lose a fight than a whole career. He will be out of the ring 6-8 months with that cut. Doctor should have stepped in.

Looked to me as if the doctor and ref were too scared to stop it. That is the worst cut I have ever seen a fighter have and be allowed to fight on.

complete crap, if gloves are good enough for an ophthalmic surgeon then they are surely ok for a sausage fingered cutsman, would you let someone put an unprotected finger into your cut eye. would you let a doctor examine you without gloves on? would you expect a paramedic to wear gloves? its about the shit on the cutsmans hands for everyday life as well as blood etc. plus..whats wrong with changing gloves each round..he has 3 mins to do it in!

That cut was an absolute beauty. That cut was a real gift for Bolonti. That cut gave Bolonti his only chance of being able to win the fight. Credit to Tony for keeping Bolonti on the back foot. Though Bolonti really should have took more chances. Even if he had to take 5 punches to just land one on that cut. He would have given himself a good chance of winning. He gave Mick Williamson all the time he needed to sort out Tony’s cut. Bolonti should have made the fight a real nightmare for Tony and Mick. Yet Tony won the fight quite easy in the end.
