Well done Tony Bellew : Not easy with that type of cut !!

Post by Quixall »

Well done Tony,

Your oppenent didn't seem to have much to offer, though he was a little slippery and hard to pin down. The eye injury clearly affected how you fought for around six to seven rounds, but i thought you did well, fought an intelligent fight and got the victory. I am pleased that the injury was kept in check by your corner men because it would have been a big set back to have had the fight stopped. Onwards and upwards Tony and all the best with the imminent arrival of your child :TU: Looking forward to seeing you in the ring again mate.

Striving to manoeuvre Bellew into becoming a mandatory challenger for Dawson appears to be the intent of his team and I can't really fault that logic. Selecting Bolonti was a shrewd move. They knew he was begging to have his ranking mugged. So who's next?

I think Bellew did great with such a horrible cut, however I do think we saw a few of Tony's limitations in there tonight, especially in the first few rounds before the cut and the shot he took to get the cut.

Against the very top level fighters I can see him looking quite crude and really struggling to hit certain fighters and still seems a little too easy to tag himself at times.

That Bolonti lad couldn't miss him with left hooks in the first couple of rounds, if he's had a bit more ambition he'd have won.

Good result in the circumstances. I felt that if he'd gone to the body more he could have ground Bolonti down and got the stoppage, but he chose to box clever through the 12 rounds and you can't really argue with that when he had such a bad cut.

It was a horrible cut and Bellew did very well to deal with it.
I'm surprised it wasn't stopped though, I thought it was that bad and sometimes being allowed to go on with cuts like that are bad for your career. Cuts like that can end careers.

I think that if Balonti showed any sort of offensive ambition at all it may well have been stopped. Luckily he was content to slip, slide and block his way to the final bell!

I thought after seeing the cut that Tony had about two or three rounds max before the fight would be stopped. I agree and was suprised that Balonti didn't go for the injury, but he seemed quite limited in offence. As you say, if Balonti would have gone on the offensive, there was a big possibilty that the fight would have been stopped. That's why it was a good performance from Tony, because he didn't know how long he had got and in the end chose the right tactics under a lot of pressure, in a fight that was crucial to him rankings wise.

Anyone with ambition would have done whatever they could to finish that fight. I mean he could have gone in there windmilling, all that really mattered was worsening the cut to force a stoppage.

Bellew still needs to fight better more ambitious fighters.

Miranda and now this chap, both came just for the payday.

It looked like a middleweight vs a cruiserweight - Bolonti was brought in because he had serious height and reach disadvantages, was picked to get KO'd, if matchroom knew in hindsight what was going to happen they would have brought in Graciano Rocchigiani or someone similar.

The blokes entitled to his opinion does it justify this abuse because it differs from yours? In the first two rounds Bolonti couldn't miss with his (not particularly fast or well delivered) left hook, it was two of these that caused the 'horrendous' cut. If Bolonti had continued throwing them he could have won.

How come Bellew is beyond criticism (is it because he posts on here?) if any DARES state a negative some zealot fanboy like this crops up hurling invective. Sorry I'm not sold on Bellew one bit, the reality is:

1. Looked dire against the awkward but nothing special Ajisafe
2. Dropped twice and got a dodgy stoppage against McKenzie (1st fight)
3. Ran like a thief to get a decision over McKenzie (2nd fight)
4. Couldn't beat Cleverly one of the poorest 'champions' in history
5. Good performance against McIntosh (inactive a year, coming off a stoppage loss)
6. Takes 9 to stop middleweight Miranda

What's happened to the fearsome 'smashing machine' of the early career Bellew? The 'smashing' has diminished as the level of opposition has improved. A sickening stoppage defeat is on the horizon, it's a matter of time (could you image if Dawson or Cloud had been cracking him with the same ease as Bolonti)

Jealous of what your nauseating adoration for Bellew? Seriously your OP is more like a love letter, it should have been sent directly to Bellew by PM.

I don't think you will last very long on this forum. Your knowledge of boxing is clearly limited to say the least and quite franky, you don't know the history between posters and boxers on this forum after 10 posts. You claim that the previous poster you slag off has no intelligence, yet you fail to see that Milton was joking in his comments and myself like wise. Quite ironic really, but i am sure it was completely lost on you. You berate the previous poster for being abusive and yet post a fairly aggressive comment to me just after. priceless reallly. You obviously have some issues. I would calm down a little and grow up.

My knowledge of 'boxing is clearly limited' really? Please point out the inaccuracies in my critique of Bellew above.

Sending love letters to another man on a public forum indicates you have greater 'issues' :TU:

You don't 'think I will last long' well you've been permitted to stay for over 2000 posts, so who knows?

Tony, was there talk of plastic surgery on the cut? How is it doing now? I take it you got it stitched pretty tight? Must be pretty easy for infection to set in when a cut is that wide and deep.
